Camp Devins
March 14, 1918
Dear Mother –
Received your letter and found the slippers under the apples today.
Everybody has the thought of getting moved from here Saturday, which I think that I’ll probably go too. Some of the men were examined again today, and I was among them. That means something is going to happen soon, but my mail will follow me so don’t be afraid to write. We got out of quarantine tonight and I went to Ayer, just got back. It is about as big as Bethel from what I saw. It has a bigger railroad station than Danbury.
I got my identification tags the other day and my number is 1682529. I just got news that we are going to Camp Upton. I got that from one of the Captain’s orderlies. He said that he made out my slip for the transfer. It might not be definite but will let you know as soon as I get there. I have got to buy myself a pair of dress shoes, I guess. They tell me they don’t issue them anymore and I can’t wear these hob nails all the while. I think I’ll wait a while and see. Well, it is nearly 10 o’clock and the lights go out then, so will say “good night.”
Your Son
