Porth was the maiden name of Claire Trisch Geddes' Grandmother. It is not clear what branch of the Porth family Grandpa Porth may be. There were no Porths in Connecticut regiments. There's at least a family resemblance between "Grandpa Porth" and Claire Trische Geddes' great-grandfather, Frederick Porth (1830-1874) - shown in the accompanying images. Frederick Porth was a watchmaker and has not been found to have served in the Civil War. In the official roster of the 7th New York Infantry Co. H shows a Frederick Roth but the enlistment card clearly says Porth. Unfortunately, the enlistment card states that there is no further info on the soldier.
