Showing Hofmann-Ysenbourg's recognizable style, but the subjects in the background are reduced to greater abstraction - perhaps attributable to the possibilities provided by working in bas-relief. The central figure in the foreground, shaded in white, could be a soldier with a rifle slung on their back, leading their anonymous companions through a green jungle.
