Hofmann Ysenbourg Bas Reliefs
Hofmann-Ysenbourgs works in relief seem to document a lost mythology or story. When he was living in Paris in the early 1930s, he moved in literary circles, befriending Andre Gide, Jean Cocteau, Gris, Braque and Picasso. Nikos Kazantzakis, the influential Greek writer who was also acquainted with Hofmann-Ysenbourg, is reported to have influenced Hofmann-Ysenbourg's strong humanistic roots and expression which played with the idea of the human form as a symbol and as the protagonist in the realization of his/her own image.
