1968 Mexico City Olympics - paintings by Donald Moss

Donald Moss was commissioned to do graphic arts pieces for the Mexico City summer Olympic games. His pieces, like Hofmann-Ysenbourg's, incorporate pre-Columbian imagery with a modern twist. These are pages from promotional materials also in the Donald Moss Collection.

1968 was a timultuous and in some ways the height of the 1960s aesthetic.  Mexico, like other countries around the world, was engrossed in political, social and artistic upheaval.  The graphics used for the Olympics that summer embraced that aesthetic with abandon.  Moss's work here falls into line with the design motifs that were established by Lance Wyman and Eduardo Terrazas.
