Relations with WCSU

1941 clipping of Danbury State Teachers' College Forum members visit Federal Correctional Institute to participate in newly installed "Prison Forum."

In the 1990s, Daryl Dennis, now Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, worked with the Danbury Community Relations Board while also working for WestConn.

Since its construction, the Federal Correctional Institution of Danbury has had off-and-on communication and interaction with WestConn. Starting with the Prison Forums in 1940, WestConn has contributed to and participated in educational and intramural work.

WCSU Alum Ben DaSliva remembers when he did a winter term project at the prison in the 1950s:

There are at least two known current faculty members of the WCSU University staff that have worked with F.C.I. and made large contributions to both F.C.I. and WestConn. F.C.I. Inmates often engages in sports, playing all types of sports. These athletic teams, which were made up of inmates, played teams outside of prison grounds from around Danbury and the local area, including an all-star team from WCSU.
