The first volume of a political history of Great Britain during the early years of the WWI. Originally published in two volumes in 1928 and 1932, the two books were reprinted in one volume in 1960.

William Maxwell "Max" Aitkin, 1st Baron Beaverbrook (1879-1964) Anglo-Canadian publisher, politician and writer. He exerted significant influence on the British media through the ownership of several major newspapers. He also served as minister in the British government during both world wars.
