Prize for First Baby:

One whose name is first on register this month will receive award

One of the evils emphasized in the Baby Week campaign is the failure to register births. Publication in a newspaper is not enough. Legal entry in the town records should be promptly made for many reasons. Very often it is necessary in later life to establish the exact date of a birth, and instances have been cited where settlement of estates has depended on this item; but whether material results are likely or not it should be promptly attended to.

Mrs. John C. Downs, who figures prominently in a hundred and one good works in the city's life, has offered a prize for the first baby registered in March. The record at City hall will decide the issue and if more than one name appears on the same date the time of entry will probably settle the point. This prize will be awarded at the mothers' meeting in St. James' Parish House, Saturday afternoon, when the three free talks are given by Dr. Annie Keeler, Miss Mary Brennan, visiting nurse, and Mrs. Matilda Collins, school nurse.

This matter of registration is really a vital one and should not be neglected. It is expected that one of the results of the Baby Week campaign will be to impress the importance of it.
