1904, 1905. Three notes on Oil of Hyssop
Oil of Hyssop.-- The specific action of the oil of hyssop is to positively cure any disease in the flesh caused by filthy humors as leprosy, scrofula, syphilis, cancerous conditions, etc.
Give five drops in one tablespoonful of olive oil three times a day. I have been using it for a case of cancer of the liver with gratifying improvement. --Annie K. Bailey, M.D., Danbury, Conn.

For the sake of those using the oil of hyssop I would offer the following as a general and practical rule, in order that the oil may not be given too long, or beyond the point of need:
If the case is severe, begin with five drops three times a day, and reduce to two or three drops as soon as improvements on any of these lines begins, viz., the disappearance of symptoms, a more healthful expression of countenance, or a general condition of better feeling. The patient's own testimony is a safe guide to reducing the drops. Reduce rather than increase. In my experience the action has been very quick, marked improvement taking place within two weeks' time in cases of syphilis, and in a case of cancer of the uterus, with discharge, the discharge had practically ceased in about that length of time, or a little longer.
Prescribe four tumblerfuls of water, to be taken during the day to cleanse, wash out, or remove from the system that prepared by the hyssop to be eradicated.
In ordinary cases, two or three drops will be found sufficient, if the action should not be as rapid. It provides against any possible idiosyncrasy of the patient from any over-stimulating effects.
Personally, I am intensely interested in the authentic of this volatine, essential (ethereal or distilled) oil.
