His obituary appeared in the New-York Tribune on February 19, 1905.

Danbury, Conn., Feb 18 – HGB, formerly a well-known New York business man, died at his home in this city yesterday at the age of seventy-six. Born in Southeast New-York, Mr. Bailey went to New-York City in 1845, and was for seventeen years associated with J.B. Close in the clothing business, the last seven years being a partner. After that for a number of years he was a member of the clothing firm of Hutchins & Bailey. From 1878 to 1898 Mr. Bailey was the manager of Smith, Gray, & Co’s Greenpoint store. He had been retired since 1898. The funeral will be held in the home of his son, F.C. Bailey, No 152 Deer Hill Avenue, Danbury, on Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock.

The son mentioned, F.C. Bailey, is probably actually Halcyon's brother Festus Confucius Bailey. There is no mention of any wife. Halcyon Gilbert Bailey was buried in Peach Lake Cemetery in Westchester County, New York.

Another obituary appeared in the Brewster Standard on February 24, 1905.

On Friday last at the residence of his brother, Festus C. Bailey, 152 Deer Hill Avenue, Halcyon Gilbert Bailey departed his life in the seventy-seventh year of his age. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock and the interment was on the following day at what is known as the Peach Lake burying ground, near the residence of Hubert Vail.

Deceased was born in this town. His father, Gilbert Bailey, and his mother, Nancy Reed, soon after their marriage began housekeeping at the old homestead on Dingle Ridge. His boyhood was passed on the farm, but his leaning was toward mercantile life and in his sixteenth year he found a position as a clerk in a New York clother store. After a few years service there he attracted the attention of J.B. Close, a leading clothier, who was in need of a competent head salesman and general superintendent. After several years in that capacity a partnership was formed under the firm name of Close & Bailey; afterward Hutchins & Bailey, which continuned until 1875.

After a few years travel and rest Mr. Bailey was offered the management of Smith & Gray's clothing house at Greenpoint, and he continued with that firm until he passed three score and ten. Since then he has lived in Danbury with his daughter, Dr. Annie K. Bailey and his brother. Howard F. Bailey, of Mount Kisco, a nephew of the deceased, owing to a delayed train on the Harlem was unable to attend the funeral.
