1869. Halcyon borrows against Sherwood Farm

In February 1869, Halcyon borrowed an additional $1000 from Jordan L. Bailey. He used Sherwood Farm as collateral for this debt, as well as for the previous $350 he had borrowed. Halcyon claimed

``I am well seized of the premises as a good indefeasible estate in fee simple, and for good right to bargain and sell the same in manner and form as is above written, and that the same is free from all incumbrances whatever''

This is a bold claim regarding a property deeded in his wife's name. He was either deceiving his younger brother or entirely convinced that all of his wife's property was his own.
