Correspondence, writings, biographical sketches, correspondence of his wife, Evelyn Atwater Cummins, clippings, photographs, and memorabilia of Alexander G. Cummins. Correspondence makes up the largest part of the papers and is largely concerned with church matters in which he took a strong low church position.The papers show advocacy of Ernest M. Stires and Herbert Shipman in church elections and his defense of Lee W. Heaton of Texas who was charged with heresy. Many of the letters refer to articles in The Chronicle, a newspaper founded and edited by Cummins from 1901 until his death. Notable in the correspondence are Nicholas Murray Butler, H. L. Mencken, Lowell Thomas, and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The papers consist of correspondence, writings, subject files, memorabilia, photographs, financial records, and other papers detailing the professional career and personal life of Anson Phelps Stokes and family members, including Olivia, Caroline and Helen Stokes. Papers relating to Anson Phelps Stokes document his work with prominent educators, reformers, religious leaders, businessmen, and politicians. Stokes's work on behalf of black education, social issues, and the Phelps-Stokes Fund are detailed. His religious activities, Yale University work, and family interests are also represented, as are Stokes's work on behalf of the Portsmouth Treaty of 1905 and the Yale-China Association. Papers relating to Helen Phelps Stokes include material relating to the Socialist Party and the National Civil Liberties Bureau.

Journals, letterbook, medical notes, and essays of Benajah Ticknor, doctor and surgeon with the U.S. Navy. Of primary importance are the journals which describe journeys made by Ticknor with the Navy to South America, the Far East, and Europe.

Research materials for a history of the Protestant Episcopal Church, drafts of articles written for the Historical Magazine of the Protestant Episcopal Church and other publications, and for several books on church history. Also included is an extensive autograph collection of over 300 letters of Protestant Episcopal bishops.Of particular interest in the research materials are correspondence and documents of Bishop Alfred Lee and others relating to missionary work in Mexico between 1875-1915. Also in the papers is a collection of sermons (1765-1931), a scrapbook compiled by Chorley about the general convention of 1913, and a brief diary for the year of 1932.

Diaries, family records and history of the Parish of Trinity Church, New Haven (1740-1820) by Harry Croswell, journalist and later minister of Trinity Church from 1815 until his death. The diaries in 14 volumes (1821-1858), offer a daily record of his life in New Haven as well as accounts of his participation in the work of the church in the surrounding region and in the affairs of Trinity College, Hartford.Croswell also records the formation of the black congregation, St. Luke's, in 1844. Occasional trips to upstate New York (1825, 1841), to Boston and Philadelphia (1821) offer descriptions of these places. In 1915 F. B. Dexter made a transcript of large portions of the diary and also compiled an index.

This collection documents the work of H. Boone Porter, an important figure in the Episcopal Church during the second half of the 20th century. A graduate of Yale, Berkeley Divinity School, and General Theological Seminary, Boone was a Professor of Liturgics at General Theological Seminary from 1960 to 1970. As a member of the Standing Liturgical Commission of the Episcopal Church, he was a major architect of the 1979 Book of Common Prayer. Later he served as Executive Director of the Town and Country Church Institute (Roanridge) and editor of The Living Church from 1977 until his retirement in 1990. While in retirement Porter completed a Master's degree at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. He wrote several books and many articles related to liturgy and the mission of the church.

These papers relate primarily to the life and work of Henry Knox Sherrill and his son Henry Williams Sherrill. The papers document Henry Knox Sherrill's career as an Episcopal rector, Bishop of Massachusetts, and Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, his wartime chaplaincy work (in France during World War I and as Chairman of the United States General Commission on Chaplains during World War II), his ecumenical leadership as President of the National Council of Churches and the World Council of Churches, and his service to institutions such as Yale University and Massachusetts General Hospital. Henry Williams Sherrill was a graduate of Yale College, Union Theological Seminary and Virginia Theological Seminary. He was an Episcopal priest who served parishes in Michigan and Ohio and for many years was chairman of the Cheswick Center, a research and education trust for study and improvement in nonprofit governance.

The papers consist of autographs and collected letters, sermons, teaching materials, research notes and documents, and the typescript of Kenneth Cameron's master's thesis on Othello (1931). A large part of the papers relates to the Church of the Holy Trinity in Hartford, Connecticut and contains a substantial collection of the sermons, writings and speeches of the Reverend Ernest Fremery Miel, manuscripts of Sir Arthur Gorges, sermons of Joseph G. H. Barry and papers relating to the construction of the church, 1870-1874. Also in the papers are a number of Civil War documents, including papers of P. P. Pitkin and letters to the U. S. Treasury from officers of the U. S. Colored Regiments. Another group of letters, written between 1885 and 1917, to Samuel Hart, concerns the American Book of Common Prayer. Also included are research materials on the Concord School of Philosophy and Literature.

The Miscellaneous Personal Papers record group is an open collection consisting of the correspondence, diaries, writings and/or other papers and memorabilia of various individuals. This collection contains papers of individuals who were Yale faculty members, alumni/ae, clergy, ecumenical workers, or missionaries in areas other than China.
