Wiseberg and Harry Scoble Human Rights Internet Collection, 1949 - 2010 343.5 Linear Feet The Human Rights Internet Collection includes materials relating to human rights organizations (including reports, correspondence, notes to subscribers, news and press releases), to conferences and colloquia relating to human rights (including conference materials, contact lists, bibliographies, schedules, and timelines), and ephemeral materials relating to human rights abuses (including photographs, microfilm, leaflets, drawings, handwritten notes and accounts, profiles of political prisoners, lists of political prisoners, torture and prison abuse records, and public statements), among other materials.

The collection includes thousands of human rights publications from around the world collected from 1977 to the present by Human Rights Internet, a non-governmental organization based out of Ottawa, Canada, founded by Laurie S. Wiseberg and Harry Scoble. The collection includes materials not found in any other libraries in North America, and includes publications in a variety of languages including English, French, Spanish, Dutch, German, Swedish, Chinese and Japanese (among many others).

Wiseman, William, Sir, 1885-
Papers pertaining to the period 1917-1919 and specifically to diplomatic relations between Britain and the U.S. during that period. Includes correspondence between Wiseman and Edward M. House; official telegrams of the British Foreign Office and of U.S. officials; British and American official and private memoranda on war matters and on problems of the Peace Conference; and reports and correspondence on Russia and on the Zionist movement. Important correspondents include: Gordon Auchincloss, Arthur James Balfour, Winston Churchill, Thomas G. Masaryk, Ignace Jan Paderewski, the Marquis of Reading, Cecil Spring-Rice and William Tyrrell.

William Henricks Wiser and Charlotte Viall Wiser Papers, 1836-2000 13 Linear Feet

Wiser, William Henricks, 1890-1961
William and Charlotte Wiser were Presbyterian missionaries in North India, appointed in 1915, and were active in the development of India Village Service, a demonstration project for the improvement of village life. These papers document the work of the Wisers in North India, particularly their involvement in rural reconstruction and their interest in Indian folklore.

ALS anxiously correcting a false rumor about his family's relationship with the recipient's department, which was in danger of being published in the Philadelphia Public Ledger until Wister telephoned [Adolph S.] Ochs to set things straight; the matter seems to have been connected with the illness of one of Wister's children.

Two ALS, one thanking Biddle for a review of his "Watch Your Thirst," the other letting him know that Wister's mother left something for him in her will which had been given to her by Biddle's father, and noting the help that [Biddle's brother] Moncure gave him at the time of the death. Accompanied by three clippings: Biddle's review of "Watch Your Thirst" and a related anecdote mentioning Wister and Biddle, and a drawing by George Howe illustrating the opera, from the Philadelphia Ledger 1923 Aug 18.

Writings include manuscripts, typescripts, and corrected proofs for works including Lesbian peoples: Material for a dictionary (Grasset, 1976), Virgile, non (Les éditions de Minuit, 1985), Paris-la-politique et autres histoires (P.O.L., 1999), and The straight mind and other essays (Beacon Press, 1992). Correspondence includes letters from writers, publishers, editors, and others. Teaching materials include syllabi, correspondence, and other papers related to Wittig's teaching at the University at Buffalo and the University of Arizona. Writings by others include writings about Wittig. Also includes correspondence, clippings, writings, and conference materials relating to Nathalie Sarraute.

Wittler, Melvin Armin
Correspondence, writings, and collected material document the life and work of Melvin Wittler, who was an American Protestant missionary in Turkey from 1956 to 1993, and provide insight into religious and political events in the Middle East. Wittler served as an administrator for the Near East Mission of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions and the United Church Board for World Ministries, overseeing the Mission's educational and medical work.

Jan Wojcik Papers, 1945-1996 1 box (1 linear ft.)

Wojcik, Jan
Jan Wojcik was a prolific writer, essayist, and a dedicated community activist and patriot. Wojcik was born in Russia in 1913, but after the Bolshevik war he returned to Poland in 1921. He lived and was educated in Poland. In 1939 he served on the front as an artillery officer. He was captured by the Germans and spent the rest of the war in a POW camp. After the war ended, he immigrated to Brazil in 1949 and later to the US in 1961. He lived in New Britain and worked in manufacturing and for the Polish cause. He wrote to several Polish and Polish American periodicals and participated in activities of many Polonia organizations. His collection consists of his writings, articles, and books.
