The Mansfield Chapter of the World Federalist Association, the oldest continually operating chapter in the U.S, celebrated its fortieth anniversary in 1988 with approximately 120 members. It is a non-profit, tax-deductible, educational organization, whose basic objectives are the abolition of war and the establishment of a world authority or authorities capable of insuring world peace through enforceable world law and the equitable regulation of world issues without resort to the use of arms. In 1949, the chapter asked for a state legislature resolution calling for a federal constitutional amendment that would enable the United States to join a world government.

The Industrial Aircraft Lodge 1746A of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) is affiliated with the AFL-CIO. The Local represents production workers at United Technologies Corporation's Pratt and Whitney plant in Southington, Connecticut. Lodge members work at the Pratt and Whitney plant in East Hartford, Connecticut. Workers at both plants make jet engines and components for commercial and military aircraft. Lodge 1746A is a member of IAMAW District 91. The IAMAW Grand Lodge headquarters are in Washington, D.C.

Joan K. Jackson, as a graduate student in sociology at McGill University, began a diary on the experiences and views of her husband Stanley K. Jackson and of his fellow students to their medical education at the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The diary covers Stanley W. Jackson's third and fourth years at McGill and a year of internship at the Royal Victoria Hospital.
