The collection contains original sketches, drawings, autograph manuscripts, and autograph letters, signed, by the English illustrator Walter Crane. Prominent are the original drawings for two of Crane's illustrated books, Queen Summer, or The Tourney of the Lily and the Rose (London: Cassell & Co., 1891) and A Floral Fantasy in an Old English Garden (New York and London: Harper and Bros., 1899). Correspondents include Kineton Parkes and Frederic Shields. Also present is a ceramic tile bearing an image by Crane, and his watercolor landscape titled "Swedish Twilight."

Mabel Dodge Luhan collection, 1885-1984

The Luhan collection consists of letters, manuscripts, photographs, and personal papers documenting the life and work of Mabel Dodge Luhan. There is correspondence with psychoanalyst Abraham Arden Brill, Dr. Eric P. Hauser, and friend and assistant Walter Willard Johnson. There are smaller groups of letters to Charlotte Becker and Robert Edmond Jones, as well as incoming letters from John Reed. Writings include drafts of several manuscripts: typescript carbon drafts of "Hildegaard" and Una and Robin; a holograph draft of Edge of Taos Desert; a holograph and typescript draft of the unpublished "Family Affairs"; holograph and typescript drafts of Movers and Shakers; the original holograph manuscript of the unpublished novel "Water of Life"; and the first draft of Winter in Taos.
There are early photographs of Luhan, photographs of friends, including Dorothy Brett and Robinson and Una Jeffers, and photographs of Luhan's homes in Taos, New Mexico, and Florence. Personal papers include the painting of Luhan by Mary Foote.

The Helene Mullins and Marie McCall Papers consists of correspondence, writings, and photographs by and relating to the American authors and sisters Helene Mullins and Marie McCall. Correspondence is highly fragmentary, consisting chiefly of letters from Jean and Zohmah Charlot and John Hall Wheelock to Helene Mullins. Photographs depict Mullins and McCall from childhood to later adulthood, and also include portraits and snapshots of family members and friends. Writings include drafts of Mullins's poetry, an autobiographical novel by Mullins entitled The Loving are Daring, and the unpublished diaries of Marie McCall.

Sometimes credited with the first powered flight in 1901 two years before the Wrights, Gustav Whitehead's early airplanes were widely reported on by Bridgeport newspapers and national magazines. This research collection documents those early articles, along with later history has worked to understand Whitehead's early aviation feats, making it a combination of not only a history collection, but a historiography collection.

The music program at Wesleyan University dates back to the early days of the institution, when informal singing groups performed for special occasions. As the program expanded and became more formalized, courses were offered, and in 1929 the Music Department was established. Performance groups came to include the Glee Club, the Chapel Choir, the Choral Society, the Jibers, the Cardinals, the Wesleyan Band, and a number of instrumental ensembles. During the 1950s, associate professor David McAllester introduced world music courses into the curriculum, and in 1966 the department established a doctoral program in ethnomusicology. Visiting artists from various regions around the world, including Africa, India, Indonesia, Japan, and Korea, have performed at the university.
