The correspondence consists chiefly of approximately 500 letters from Trefusis to John Phillips written in the 1960's. Also included are letters to Trefusis from her mother, Alice Keppel, her sister, Sonia Keppel, and her husband, Denys Trefusis; several governmental departments in France and England concerning Trefusis's re-entry into France after World War II; and her nomination to the Légion d'honneur. Writings include holograph and typescript drafts of Trefusis' memoirs, novels, plays and other writings. Other materials include a photograph of Denys Trefusis; a miniature case portrait of Trefusis as a child; and an album containing photographs of friends of the Keppels, taken by George Keppel between 1924-1939 at the family's Villa dell'Ombrellino in Florence, including many members of European nobility and royalty.

The collection consists of scripts and a small number of photographs documenting approximately eighty-five television programs featuring African American actors, entertainers, and topics from the 1950s through the 1990s. While some material from an earlier period of television broadcasting is present, including Amos and Andy (1952), Buelah (1950-1953), and The Jack Benny Show (1964), scripts for shows that aired in the 1970s and 1980s predominate. Sanford and Son (1974-1976), The Jeffersons (1975-1978), Good Times (1974-1976) and The Cosby Show (1984-1991), situation comedies depicting African American familes in varying social conditions, are particularly well represented. In addition to long-running programs, the collection includes scripts for variety specials, miniseries, and pilots such as Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1975) and Skin Game (1974). The collection also includes a file documenting the Association of Black Motion Picture and Television Producers, including meeting minutes and copies of outgoing correspondence.

The papers contain four letter books and other official papers sent, received, and kept by George F. Usher, Haitian consul in New York under President Fabre Nicolas Geffrard; the correspondence primarily details Usher's diplomatic and commercial work in New York City on behalf of the Republic of Haiti during the years 1859-1867, which included, in 1862, the United States's official recognition of the Haitian government. Among the recipients of Usher's letters are Demosthenes Bruno and Ernest Roumain, chargés d'affaires in Haiti, and August Elie, Hatian secretary of state, as well as B. C. Clark, Haitian consul in Boston, and James Redpath. Some of the letter books include lists of cargo ships trading between Haiti and New York. Usher's papers also include personal letters written from New York and during his retirement in Bristol, Rhode Island, as well as a bound volume of manuscript records of the Sewing School for the Children of St. Michael's Parish, Bristol, conducted by his daughters Helen Maria Usher (1834-1892) and Irene (Ida) Frances Usher (1838-1925) between 1869 and 1873.

The collection contains both primary and secondary source material accumulated by Kagan while conducting research for his book, New World Utopias: A Photographic History of the Search for Community. In addition to personal correspondence pertaining to his research, and drafts of his manuscript for the book and related writings, Kagan's collection contains letters, photographs, documents, notes, writings, and other visual material and printed material, which document 19th and 20th century utopian communities, most of which were located in California. The archives of Walter Millsap, William and Lucille Riker and John and Agnes Varian, participants in Llano del Rio and Newllano, Holy City, and Halcyon respectively, are also present. The photographic component of the archive is particularly strong: numerous original photographs taken by community members are supplemented by field photographs that Kagan took in the 1970s, as part of his research.
Utopian communities represented in the collection include Llano del Rio, Newllano, Holy City, Halcyon, Fountaingrove, Icaria Speranza, Kaweah, Krotona and Ojai Valley, Pisgah Grande, Point Loma, and the Tassajara Zen Mountain Center.

The George Van Santvoord collection was formed by Van Santvoord's relatives, friends and associates. Various early acquisitions include manuscript material by Van Santvoord and others, correspondence, and printed material. Sketchbooks contain original ink and pencil sketches and watercolors, with views of places visited by Van Santvoord in South Africa, the Far East, Panama Canal, Galapagos, Marquesas, Bora Bora, Tahiti, Fiji, Borneo, and elsewhere. The July 1985 Acquisition contains correspondence, including letters from Van Santvoord to his father Seymour, dating from 1914 to 1918, and letters to Van Santvoord from Lancelot Ridley Phelps, William Lyon Phelps, Harris Rackham, and others. The October 1995 Acquisition contains manuscript notes relating to John Milton and the seventeeth century, additional correspondence, material relating to Yale University, dating largely from the 1940s, and other personal papers.
