The collection consists of photographs, papers, and publications that document the work of Italian photojournalist Fausto Giaccone (1943-), from 1966 to 2013. The material includes Giaccone's reportage of social and cultural aspects of Europe, South America, and the Middle East, with an emphasis on political movements in Italy and Portugal from 1966 to 1986. The photographic materials in this collection consist of exhibition prints, work prints, contact sheets, and original slides for fifteen photo journalism assignments; prints for three exhibitions; and slides and work prints for two books, as well as a portfolio of color prints. The papers largely document the production of the book Una storia portoghese (Palermo: Randazzo, 1987), and include clippings and exhibition reviews. The papers also include exhibition catalogs, publications, and publicity material produced for various projects. Some of Giaccone's publications are also included with the collection.

There are 4 journals, 1 diary, several notebooks with notes for a projected novel, quotes, poetry, and early school essays all belonging to George Eliot, accompanied by reviews and scripts of dramatizations of Daniel Deronda in the 1920s and 1970s. With 3 journals, 9 diaries, and notebooks with research notes belonging to George Henry Lewes, accompanied by miscellaneous writings, including several chapters of Problems of Life and Mind. There is also printed material, reviews, memorabilia, and photograph portraits of Eliot and Lewes as well as artwork by others. Principal correspondents include members of the Lewes family, Caroline and Charles Bray, John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton, Barbara Leigh Smith Bodichon, John Chapman, Anna Chalmers and J. W. Cross, Alexandre D'Albert-Durade, Frederic Harrison, Sara Sophia Hennell, Frances Lucy Evans Houghton, Maria Lewis, Edward Robert Bulwer Lytton, Herbert Spencer, and Anthony Trollope.

The papers consist of correspondence, writings, topical files, biographical files, scrapbooks, and other material relating to William Kent's businesses, political activities, and family. The papers document his activities as a municipal reformer in Chicago and Northern California; his interests in conservation, recreation, and public control of water power; his campaigns for election to Congress; his service in the U.S. House of Representatives and on the U.S. Tariff Commission; and his business interests in cattle ranches in Nebraska and Nevada. The papers also include materials relating to the activities of Kent's wife, Elizabeth Thacher Kent, Mrs. Kent's family, and the Kent children and grandchildren. Papers of Elizabeth Thacher Kent document her interests in women's suffrage, the Equal Rights Amendment, and international peace and her participation in the National Woman's Party and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom.

The China Records Project Miscellaneous Personal Papers Collection is an open collection. It currently contains material from more than 325 individuals, primarily Protestant missionaries to China. The time period covered is approximately from 1834 to 1998. The China Records Project was initiated by the National Council of Churches of Christ in the U.S.A in 1968. The aim of the project was to insure the preservation of the personal records of former missionaries to China and to provide a central repository where these papers would be available to historians. The Yale Divinity School Library was chosen as this central repository in 1969 and has continued to solicit and accept China-related papers since that time.

The papers provide extensive documentation of a major twentieth-century collection which is no more and of individual works within the collection; as well as insight into some of the leading artists of this century, and particularly of the Italian Futurists, such as Umberto Boccioni. They also illustrate in detail the practice of art collecting as carried out by Malbin, one of the great American practitioners of that avocation.

The Connecticut State University System dates back to 1849. Colleges in the system all began as teachers colleges and gradually were given responsibility for educational programs such as liberal arts, business, technology, and health services. They were brought together into a state college system in 1965, and were granted university status in 1983. In 2011, Governor Malloy consolidated governance under the Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education which replaced the CSUS with a defacto board of trustees; however, Connecticut State University System legally still exists, but CT's four regional Universities are considered to be a part of the larger system of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (ConnSCU).

William Tully (1785-1859) was professor of materia medica and therapeutics at the Medical Institution of Yale College from 1824 to 1842. The collection contains a small amount of correspondence by or to Tully and limited material on Tully's medical career. One subseries concerns settling the estate of William Tully and finding funds to support his daughters Sarah and Elizabeth. The collection contains genealogies, original documents of the Tully family in Connecticut, and also documents related to ancestors of Tully's wife, Mary Potter Tully, particularly her father, the Rev. Elam Potter, and her stepfather, the Rev. Nehemiah Prudden. Photographs include daguerrotypes of Tully's children.

The collection consists of the writings and personal papers of Piet Mondrian, in addition to writings about him and the DeStijl movement. Most of Mondrian's writings were arranged and annotated by Harry Holtzman and Martin S. James for their volume The New Art, the New Life: the Complete Writings of Piet Mondrian (Boston: G. K. Hall, 1986). Some of the writings also were annotated by Mondrian's colleagues Michel Seuphor and Georges Vantongerloo. Personal papers include items such as Mondrian's birth certifications and passports, leases for his studios in Paris and New York, his United States war ration books, his will, and an undated drawing by Mondrian. Also present are a few autograph and typed letters, signed, from friends and colleagues in the arts.

The Randolph Linsly Simpson African-American Collection consists chiefly of photographs dating from circa 1850 to 1970, but also includes printed illustrations, original artwork, documents and printed ephemera that provide a record of black history in the United States for the period circa 1770 to 1970. The focus is on African-American subjects, but the collection also includes the work of black photographers, as well as images of white men and women, many of whom were associated with the abolitionist movement. Collected with a broad scope, the images provide information about individuals at all socio-economic levels and include people of all ages and gender. They represent the work of professional photographers in various regions of the United States and some European countries, and the image formats present in the collection reflect the development of photographic processes, beginning with Daguerreotypes and extending through mid-twentieth century formats.

The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was established in 1866 by a former Army surgeon and held its first national meeting that same year. Its membership consisted of Union veterans of the Civil War. The GAR was concerned with veteran benefits and was actively involved in establishing soldiers' homes, making provisions for soldiers' graves, and lobbying for pension benefits. It proved to be an effective pressure group and exerted significant influence in the political arena.

The papers consist of correspondence, writings, financial records, and other papers, principally of John La Farge (1835-1910), American painter, worker in stained glass, and writer; and of his son, Bancel La Farge (1865-1938); and his grandsons, Henry Adams La Farge (1902-1985) and Louis Bancel La Farge (1900-1989). Of special interest is a large file of correspondence between John La Farge and Henry Adams and an unpublished catalogue of La Farge's work by Henry La Farge. The papers of Louis Bancel La Farge include materials documenting his work as chief of the Monuments, Fine Arts and Archives Section (MFAA) of the Supreme Headquarters, Allied Expeditionary Force, and related materials concerning the salvage and, later, the ownership of European works of art. Included are MFAA office files containing correspondence, memoranda, reports, photographs, and printed memorabilia such as posters, postcards, maps and other items. Of particular interest is the correspondence concerning the return of the Crown of St. Stephen to Hungary.

The Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas Papers contain manuscripts of writings, letters, clippings, photographs, artworks, and personal papers relating to the life and work of Gertrude Stein and her companion, Alice B. Toklas, and to Gertrude's brother, Leo Stein, an artist and writer. As well as holding the bulk of Stein's literary output (often described as "experimental" or "cubist" writing), the materials document Stein and Toklas' involvement with the literary and art scene in Paris during the first half of the 20th century.
Series I, Writings, contains holograph and typescript drafts of the majority of Gertrude Stein's writings, including "The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas," "The Making of Americans" (complete with a quantity of notes, or "studies"), "Tender Buttons" and a group of unpublished fragments and carnets, notebooks kept by Stein with preliminary drafts of writings.
Series II, Correspondence of Gertrude Stein, contains letters sent from a wide variety of Stein's friends: artists such as Georges Bracque, Jean Cocteau, and Pablo Picasso; writers such as Sherwood Anderson, Ernest Hemingway, and Thornton Wilder; and acquaintances through many years such as Mildred Aldrich, Etta and Claribel Cone, Robert Haas, Mabel Dodge Luhan,Sir Francis Rose, Virgil Thomson, and Carl Van Vechten. Series III, Third Party Letters and Series IV, Alice B. Toklas Correspondence, contain letters from many of the same people, the latter group containing Alice Toklas's correspondence following Gertrude Stein's death.
Series V, Personal Papers, and Series VI, Clippings, gather together various personal affects of Stein and Toklas as well as documentation of Stein's life as reported during her lifetime.
Series VII, Photographs, show Stein from early childhood through 1946, the year she died. Prints showing Alice Toklas, various friends, artworks, and locales are included in this series, as are several volumes of prints made by Carl Van Vechten.
Series VIII and IX contain numerous artworks and objects given by Stein and Toklas. Included here are a painting by Pablo Picasso and a sketch by Henri Matisse.

The papers consist of correspondence, hospital consultation files, reports, subject files, writings, research material, audiocassettes, and photographs, which document Albert W. Snoke's career in hospital administration and his interest in health care. The papers also include material concerning the career of his wife, Parnie Storey Hamilton Snoke, and the Snoke, Storey, and Hamilton families. The papers form part of the Contemporary Medical Care and Health Policy Collection. Albert Waldo Snoke was born in Fort Steilacoom, Washington, in 1907. After receiving a B.S. degree from the University of Washington in 1928, he attended Stanford University Medical School and received his M.D. degree in 1933. In 1936, Snoke joined the staff of the Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, New York, and became its assistant director in 1937. Snoke left Rochester in 1946 to assume the directorship of Grace-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. In New Haven he also taught hospital administration at Yale University and oversaw the development of the Yale-New Haven Hospital, serving as its executive director from 1965-1968. From 1969-1973, Snoke worked in Illinois as coordinator of health services and later as acting executive director of the Illinois Comprehensive State Health Planning Agency. In 1987 his book,Hospitals, Health, and People, was published. Snoke died on April 18, 1988.

The Wilmarth Sheldon Lewis Papers consists of correspondence, writings, financial records, and other papers documenting the personal and professional activities and interests of the American author, editor, and collector Wilmarth Lewis and his wife Annie Burr Lewis. At their home in Farmington, Connecticut, the Lewises created a world-renowned collection of eighteenth-century print, graphic, and manuscript material related to the English author, connoisseur, and collector Horace Walpole (1717-1797), and his circle. Lewis's papers are predominantly related to his work on Walpole, his involvement with organizations including Yale University, the Thacher School, Historic Deerfield, and the National Portrait Gallery, and the Lewises' social and intellectual lives in England, New England, and Washington, D.C.

Manuscript, in more than one hand, of a collection of about 315 copies of letters to Charlotte (Dyve) Clayton, Lady Sundon. Almost all the letters in the first volume are from Sarah Churchill, the Duchess of Marlborough, regarding the Duchess' involvement in secret political affairs and intrigues, including those surrounding the son of James II, whom the Duchess calls "the Pretender." The first volume begins with "A list of Papers the Dutchess of Marlborough gave Mrs. Clayton to read, and beg'd they might lye in her custody, which they did for twelve months not careing to trust them in any other hand, and being afraid to keep them in her own house," and "The Cypher the Dutchess of Marlborough (when she went abroad) left with Mrs. Clayton to write to her by." The second volume contains letters, dated between 1722 and 1732, by various correspondents including Mary, Countess Cowper, the Duchess of Kent, the Countess of Pomfret, and the Countess of Pembroke, and are of a primarily social nature; topics include visits in town and Mrs. Clayton's health.

Henry Hale Bucher, Sr. and his wife Louise Catron Scott Bucher, who served as Presbyterian missionaries in China and the Philippines, and as fraternal workers in Thailand from 1929 to 1972. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence from the Buchers to their families and their children. Writings of the Buchers, biographical documentation, collected material, photographs, and audio materials document their missionary work as well as their time in the Santo Tomas and Los Baños internment camps in the Philippines during World War II, when forced to leave China by the Japanese occupation.

The collection consists primarily of audio interviews made by John Gerassi with Jean-Paul Sartre between 1970 and 1974. A companion group of interviews with Sartre's family, friends, and foes was made in 1973. Included in this group are: Raymond Aron, Simone de Beauvoir, Arlette Elkaim-Sartre, Claude Lanzmann, and J. B. Pontalis. The majority of these interviews have transcripts. Among the other papers are various works by Sartre on Ethics, in the form of lecture notes and manuscript drafts prepared in the 1960s as well as a list by Sartre of books he read in different periods of his life. Also included are notes by John Gerassi on the origin of the collection.

Warner spent 37 years as a teacher and administrator and was also a board member and former president of the Scott-Fanton Museum, now known as the Danbury Museum and Historical Society. During his tenure, he supervised and contributed to numerous museum exhibits. The Warner Collection consists of writings, photographs, miscellanea, research notes and papers documenting Warner's life as a World War II medic, author, historian and historical researcher. The bulk of the collection contains an extensive series of newspaper clippings and printed materials relating to local and state history, several boxes of personal papers, and several boxes that contain information on Western's faculty, administration, and events concerning the school's history beginning in the 1940s and continuing through to the late 1990s.

Also documented are early Arab and Portuguese coastal settlements at Kilwa, Mafia, Pemba, Sofala, and Zanzibar. The collection also represents the work of certain photographers who operated in different parts of the region, including C. Venclova's personal life and family relationships are also documented in the correspondence. Venclova's work as a poet, scholar, and translator is documented in drafts of writings that include holograph drafts of poetry. His work as a human rights activist is documented in the subject files, which include files on Adam Michnik and Liudmila Alekseeva. Photographs include personal and family photographs as well as photographs of conferences, readings and other professional travel. Audiovisual material includes recordings of poetry readings and lectures. Printed material includes reviews of Venclova's works and articles about Lithuanian politics and culture in the 1990s. Anne Rogers Winslow's photographic journals of her husband's American Red Cross mission to the Soviet Union in 1917 is an example of family material.
