The Zora Neale Hurston Collection contains Correspondence, Writings, including drafts of her autobiography, Dust Tracks on the Road, the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, and a play written in collaboration with Langston Hughes, "Mule Bone," as well as a study of Hurston written in 1972 by Robert Hemenway.

The collection contains correspondence to Bernardine Szold-Fritz from well-known cultural figures from the 20th century.

Letters to Herbert Van Thal from various writers, critics, readers, and actors, including James Agate, Alan Dent, Adrian Conan Doyle, Roger Fulford, Elspeth Huxley, Noel Langley, James Pope-Hennessey, Leonard Russell and Paul Scott. Many letters concern projects proposed by Van Thal, such as memoirs by famous persons, or are in response to queries placed by Van Thal soliciting information or leads for compilations of letters he was preparing. Other letters concern his work as a writers' agent.
