The collection consists of writings by Harry B. Chase, Jr., which focus on the history of the railroad in Massachusetts in general and the experiences of his father, Harry B. Chase, Sr., an employee of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad, in particular. Included in the writings are excerpts from letters written by father to son entitled "'Boston & New York R.P.O. Train 500,' Letters from a New Haven Railroad Signal Maintainer to his Soldier Son in Wartime, 1942-1943," as well as "Mixed Train to Providence: A History of the Boston and Providence Rail Road, the Taunton Branch Rail Road, and Connecting Lines, with Emphasis on Mansfield, Massachusetts," and other writings about the experiences of his father and himself with the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad in the mid 1900s.

The collection consists of 73 volumes, mostly in English, containing sermons, sermon-notes, prayers, religious reflections, tracts, commonplace books, Biblical commentaries, and other religious and theological texts, mostly from the later seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. Almost half of the volumes include sermons or sermon notes. Most authors are unidentified, but identified authors include John Nicholas, John Henderson, and William Barton. Devotional works include William Chilcot's Practical Treatise Concerning Evil Thoughts; an English version of Dominique Bonheur's Pensées chrétiennes; and The Life of Mr. De Marsay and his Wife, an extensive spiritual autobiography by a Quietist and mystic. Volumes documenting the spiritual and devotional lives of women include A Comfortable Companion for Afflicted Souls, being a threefold discorse collected out of Scripture by a woman; the notes of Sarah Meadows on methods of raising devout children, drawn from her own experience as a mother; the commonplace book of Frances Drake; and the spiritual biography of Sarah Kirshaw.There are also several Roman Catholic works, including one by the English Benedictine Augustine Baker, as well as two works documenting the Scottish Church and the Covenanters.

Gaston Lachaise collection, 1867-1979

Collection contains correspondence, writings, photographs, scrapbooks, and other materials documenting the life and artistic career of French sculptor Gaston Lachaise. General Correspondence consists chiefly of incoming and outgoing correspondence between Gaston Lachaise and others, including family, friends, artists and writers, art critics and patrons, and cultural institutions. The correspondence features 567 outgoing letters from Lachaise to his wife Isabel Dutaud Nagle Lachaise, dating from 1910 to 1934, and incoming correspondence from New York area artists and cultural figures of the 1920s and 1930s. There are a few pieces of writing by Lachaise and several works by others. Photographs include over 200 black-and-white images of Lachaise, family members, and friends, and of artwork by Lachaise and Pierre-Robert Christophe. Scrapbooks and printed ephemera document publicity and critical reception of Lachaise's work from the 1920s through 1970s and other materials, such as lists of Lachaise's work and the names of private owners, identify his work and document its custodial history. Third-party correspondence can be found between Gaston Lachaise's sister Allys and Lincoln Kirstein and others.

All of DuBois' poems and plays also deal with the topics of science and religion. Also included is his unpublished manuscript: Mechanics of Engineering.
