The collection consists primarily of World War II posters designed by Irving Miller and created by various artists, including Henry Koerner and Robert Gwathmey, for the Office of War Information and other government agencies. A few posters by other artists are included at the end of the collection.

Marylin Hafner was born 14 December 1925 in Brooklyn, NY. She received her B.Sc. degree in 1947 from the Pratt Institute. Hafner undertook additional studies at the new School for Social Research (1948-1950), School of Visual Arts, Silvermine School of Art and Slade School (London, England, 1965-1966). An artist, illustrator and designer, Hafner has been employed by McCall's as art director (1950-1954), and art instructor at Famous Schools, Inc. (Westport, CT, 1968-1970). A member of the Society of Illustrators, Westoport Artists Guild, and Silvermine Guild of Artists, Hafner received the New York Herald Tribune Children's Spring Book Festival Award (1949) for her work on Bonnie Bess: The Weathervane Horse.

Dean and Fanny Wickes were missionaries serving in Shandong from 1912 to 1934 under the North China Mission of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. Correspondence, writings, photographs, and collected material document the life and work of these missionaries who were engaged in educational and evangelistic work.

Documents include the original charter of the Collegiate School; letters by and to the first trustees of the school; and the 1718 inventory of books donated to the school by Elihu Yale.

The papers include correspondence, personal papers, notes and memoranda, and related papers. Much of the material concerns Spence's Anecdotes, including manuscripts of his notes on conversations with Alexander Pope, memoranda on Stephen Duck and other authors, and notes on Spence's reading. There are also extensive notes on English gardens, shorter writings by Spence, and drafts of works which appeared in his Moralities (1753, under the pseudonym of Sir Harry Beaumont). The correspondence principally concerns personal and business matters, including the settlement of Spence's estate.
Series VIII, Derby Anecdotes (Oversize) contains a large paper extra-illustrated set of the Anecdotes (1820) with autograph documents bound in,including autographs of Eustace Budgell, Colley Cibber, William Congreve, George II, Charles Montagu, Earl of Halifax, David Mallet, Alexander Pope, Sir William Trumbull, and Joseph Warton.

Principally the papers of the related Hart and Norton families of Connecticut, descendants of Hawkins Hart. Included are correspondence, legal papers, chiefly concerning the transfer of property in Wallingford, Barkhamsted, Farmington and Berlin, and writings on religious topics. The correspondence consists of letters of the Norton family of Berlin, Connecticut written mostly between 1835 and 1846 to their son, William H. Norton, who was living in Troy, New York and then in Georgia. The letters discuss slavery, religion, family finances, and also describe the death of a daughter of the family in 1839. Also mentioned in the papers are the Hooker, Cowles and Brownson families.

William James Mutch (1858-1947) was a Yale-trained Congregational clergyman and Professor of Philosophy and Education at Ripon College, Wisconsin from 1907 to 1925. He was the author of Christian religious education materials, including the well known Graded Bible Stories.
