The papers consist of autographs and collected letters, sermons, teaching materials, research notes and documents, and the typescript of Kenneth Cameron's master's thesis on Othello (1931). A large part of the papers relates to the Church of the Holy Trinity in Hartford, Connecticut and contains a substantial collection of the sermons, writings and speeches of the Reverend Ernest Fremery Miel, manuscripts of Sir Arthur Gorges, sermons of Joseph G. H. Barry and papers relating to the construction of the church, 1870-1874. Also in the papers are a number of Civil War documents, including papers of P. P. Pitkin and letters to the U. S. Treasury from officers of the U. S. Colored Regiments. Another group of letters, written between 1885 and 1917, to Samuel Hart, concerns the American Book of Common Prayer. Also included are research materials on the Concord School of Philosophy and Literature.

First part of the collection consists of correspondence, diaries, newspaper clippings, financial records and legal documents relating to the Fox, Auerbach and Koopman families of Hartford, Connecticut. Consists of travel journals, correspondence, guest books, awards and other personal papers of Beatrice Fox Auerbach, including correspondence with Eleanor Roosevelt and correspondence between George Auerbach and Beatrice before their marriage. Her papers also include reports of the Service Bureau for Women's Organizations which she founded, and the prestigious Tobe award for retailing leadership. Includes is Gerson Fox's account book, 1829-1867, part of which is written in German. Other records document the civic and philanthropic activities of Beatrice's daughters Dorothy Auerback Schiro and Georgette Auerbach Koopman and her husband Richard Koopman. Also includes patents issued to David Smyth for his book binding machine improvements; the Koopman family invested in the company. The second part of the collection consists of the business records of G. Fox & Co., a Hartford department store, including employee records such as material related to the Moses Fox Club, newsletters and training materials. Includes oversize materials. A later addition to the collection includes incoming and outgoing correspondence of Beatrice Fox Auerbach, her 1904 travel diary, surveys and maps of Auerfarm in Bloomfield which in part was turned over the the 4-H, correspondence of Moses Fox, and assorted materials related to the Koopman family and G. Fox store.

The Walter L. Pforzheimer Collection of Historical Manuscripts contains approximately 500 manuscript documents, circa 1370s-1870s, consisting of letters, legal documents, and other manuscripts written or signed by European heads of state, government, diplomatic, military or church officials, or literary authors. Most materials are French, including documents signed by French royalty and nobility, 14th-18th centuries. Many French manuscripts date from the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars, including printed Revolutionary government documents completed in manuscript. A small amount of similar documents from other European countries and the United States are present. Some documents contain evidence of previous ownership, such as annotations, collectors' bindings, or bookplates. Also present are materials relating to Pforzheimer's research and collecting, 1920s-circa 1960s, consisting of card files, biographical notes, engraved portraits, and vendor descriptions.

Correspondence, writings, memoranda, reports, printed matter, and memorabilia, chiefly documenting Hale's career as a journalist, as a member of intelligence units in the United States Army during and after World War II, and later as a member of the foreign service in Austria (1950-1953). His correspondence is largely with editors, publishers, and writers about the projected articles, or about the magazines that he sucessively edited, especially the New Republic, the Reporter, and Horizon. Prominent correspondents are Max Ascoli, founder of the Reporter, Bruce Bliven, and Oswald Garrison Villard. During World War II and just after the end of the war, when Hale was on the staff of the Psychological Warfare Branch of the Allied Expeditionary Force, he collected numerous memoranda analyzing German public opinion, including both civilians and German prisoners of war. Also included are reports on visits to Buchenwald (1945 Apr 12) and Dachau (1945 May 24) immediately after the camps were freed. The collection contains more than one hundred leaflets illustrating the psychological warfare conducted by the Allies during the war, and printed propaganda issued by the Germans, the British, and the Americans as well. His service in Vienna is documented by a diary (1951-1952), State Department memoranda, and extensive anti-Soviet printed matter issued by the United States at the height of the Cold War.

The Western Filmscript Collection consists of over two thousand filmscripts dating from 1918 to 2008, for motion pictures set in the trans-Mississippi West. The collection includes continuity, cutting, dialogue, and shooting scripts in a range of drafts from initial to final, and in some cases revised versions of the same draft. Scripts for produced, as well as unproduced, films are represented. Highlights include: fifteen Tom Mix silent scenarios from 1919 through 1927; four scripts by Zane Grey, including Riders of the Purple Sage (1931); eleven scripts directed by John Ford, including My Darling Clementine (1946), Stagecoach (1938), and Fort Apache (1947); five films featuring Gary Cooper, including The Virginian (1929), High Noon (1952), and Springfield Rifle (1952); eleven featuring Clint Eastwood, including For a Few Dollars More (1966), Dirty Harry (1970), and Pale Rider (1985). Scripts set in the twentieth-century West include American Graffiti (1972), Beverly Hills Cop (1984), The Buddy Holly Story (1978), Heaven's Gate (1979), The Long Goodbye (1972), and Terms of Endearment (1981). In addition to scripts written for theatrical release, there are scripts for episodes of television series including Rawhide, Death Valley Days, Dallas, and others.

Correspondence, reports, legal records, financial documents and genealogical material of Roger Sherman, signer of the Declaration of Independence. Included are both family letters and political correspondence. Of special interest are the letters to Governor Jonathan Trumbull on the relationship of Connecticut to the prosecution of the war (1777-1780). Among Sherman's writings are a report from the Constitutional Convention (1787), a note on the proposal for a national bank (1791) and a printed copy of his Almanac for 1760. Genealogical and other papers assembled by Sherman's grandson, George Frisbie Hoar (1826-1904) are also in the collection. Major correspondents are Oliver Ellsworth, Samuel Hopkins, Titus Hosmer, Samuel Huntington, Stephen Mix Mitchell and William Williams.

The papers consist chiefly of notes, manuscripts, documents, minutes of parliamentary committees, pamphlets and other materials collected by Hajo Holborn in connection with research on the drafting of the Weimar constitution. The pamphlets include works on related subjects, such as the German revolution of 1918, the Workers' and Soldiers' Councils, constitutional history and federalism in Germany, territorial questions concerning Silesia and the Saar, and materials on German political parties, including minutes of meetings, leaflets and printed matter from the Deutsche Demokratische Partei (DDP). Some of the DDP material is particularly addressed to women. Also in the papers are essays and reviews by Holborn, teaching materials from his tenure at the Hochschule für Politik in Berlin and Yale University. There is only a small amount of correspondence, largely on professional matters. Important correspondents are Friedrich Meinecke and Alfred Vagts, who also contributed a memoir on Holborn.

The collection contains three parts: autograph documents and letters, Bowling Green Press records, and contemporary American newspapers. The most significant part of the collection are the ca. 45 autograph items relating to French military history from the Middle Ages through the 19th century. There are also 12 carbon copies (signed) of letters from Theodore Roosevelt to various recipients (1911-1913) together with notes, extracts, and full copies of Roosevelt speeches (1912-1913). Series II of the collection is made up of the records of the Bowling Green Press of New York City, of which Arthur Pforzheimer was treasurer. Included are correspondence, ledgers, account books and incorporation papers. Contemporary memorabilia collected by Walter Pforzheimer is comprised of the initial issues of the Washington Times and U.S.A. Today and the final issue of the Washington Star.

The collection consists of a variety of documents from Jewish communities in Italy, mainly in the northern regions of Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy and Veneto. The documents include records of Jewish communal organizations, correspondence of rabbis and community leaders, legal decisions, and liturgy. There are also official notices and rulings from various Italian authorities pertaining to the Jewish community. A portion of the documents in this collection relate to the emancipation of the Jews of Italy following Napoleon's conquest. Most of the documents are entirely hand-written, but some are printed or written on printed forms or letter-heads.

Other items include extracts from Parliamentary journals; a list of the customs and privileges of both Houses of Parliament by Robert Bowyer; rules for the House of Commons; and, in Browne's hand, a patent transferring Humphrey de Bohun, Earl of Hereford's office of Constable of England to his brother, dated 1338.
