Elmer F. Farnham was a resident of Norwich, Connecticut, and a features writer for the Norwich Bulletin. He was author of The Quickest Route: The History of the Norwich & Worcester Railroad, published in 1973 by Pequot Press. The collection consists of photographs of locomotives and railroad scenes of the Norwich & Worcestor Railroad, the Central Vermont Railway, and other southern New England railroads.

Noel A. Cazenave is Professor of Sociology at the University of Connecticut whose research and teaching interests include racism, poverty policy, political sociology, urban sociology, and criminal justice. The author of numerous publications, Cazenave conducted his undergraduate studies at Dillard University and was awarded an M.A. in Psychology from University of Michigan and Ph.D. from Tulane (1977). Temple University awarded tenure 1984. Most of his research focuses on the impact of structured inequality on social identities, structures and processes.

Hammond, Knowlton and Company was a silk manufacturer in operation prior to 1892. The company consolidated with other companies in 1918 to form the H.K.H. Silk Company. This company had mills in Putnam, Watertown, New London, and Woodbury, CT, as well as Haverstraw, NY. The company headquarters was in Watertown, CT. In early 1925, it appears that the company changed its name to the Heminway Silk Corporation. As a matter of local interest, it is worth noting that company treasurer Clarence Asahel Hammond-Knowlton resided in Mansfield Center, CT, on Knowlton Hill near Gurleyville Rd.

Despite its primary emphasis on the blues and ragtime, the Samuel and Ann Charters Archives spans the entire 20th century, beginning with African-American spirituals and the ragtime of Scott Joplin and other early composers, and ending with Snoop Doggy Dogg and the rappers of the late 20th century. The Archives holds thousands of hours of recorded music on LP, 45 rpm and 78 rpm records, compact discs, audio cassettes, and reel-to-reel tapes. Though some records date back to the 1920s, the compact discs in the collection include both recent and reissued material. Most of these recordings are commercial, and the Archives holds a complete catalog of music produced by the Arhoolie label, courtesy of label owner, Chris Strachwitz and Document Records, courtesy of label managing director, Gary Atkinson. The artists included in the Charters Archives range from the most famous blues performers such as B.B. King and Robert Johnson, to obscure ragtime musicians. Many of the ragtime recordings are from concerts, conventions, and meetings hosted by the Maple Leaf Club.

He invested a great deal of his energy in collecting materials relating to the history of the Central New England Railway (CNE), which was at that time no longer in operation. His research interests were in that railroad line's history, routes, and equipment, and specifically in its steam locomotives.

The Dexter Corporation originated from a family-owned saw and grist mill that began in 1767 in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, and evolved into a multi-national producer of long fiber papers and chemical laminates. In its 233 years of operation, the company grew from manufacturing tissues, toilet paper, and tea bags to marketing more specialized products like medical garments and industrial finishes. Faced with a proposed buyout by International Specialty Products Incorporated in 2000, the Dexter Corporation separated its three divisions and sold them off to avoid a hostile takeover. The Life Sciences division merged with Invitrogen Corporation. The Specialty Polymers division was sold in part to Akzo Nobel, and the remaining businesses merged with Loctite Corporation. The third division, Dexter Nonwoven Materials, located on the company's original site in Windsor Locks, was sold to the Finnish Ahlstrom Paper Group. The physical plant was expected to continue operating, but the corporate headquarters were closed.

Included are approx. 5000 documents dated between 1840s to the 1890s, many of which are from the Arecibo civil (corte de primera instancia) court districts, covering the full range of cases that might have been brought to civil courts in those times mainly disputes over economic holdings such as land disputes, sale of slaves, and similar materials. The collection includes court cases from the towns of Arecibo, Barceloneta, Camuy, Ciales, Hatillo, Manati, Morovis, Quebradillas, and Utuado.
