Rufus A. Blanshard was an Emeritus Professor of English at the University of Connecticut. He was involved with combating racism at the university during the 1970s and 1980s, and was influential in introducing an alternative classroom curriculum to the University. Materials in the collection are comprised of his personal papers, and include documents related to his civil rights work.

Floyd E. Risvold Collection of James Edgar Cady Correspondence, 1862-1963

Letters by James Edgar Cady to family and friends in Dodge City, Steele County, Minnesota, August 1862 to July 1865, during his military service with 8th Minnesota Infantry Regiment, Company G, as well as a tintype portrait of Cady in August 1862. Letters describe his service chiefly based at Fort Abercrombie, Dakota Territory, during the Dakota War in 1862 through an expedition led by Alfred Sully against the Dakota in 1864 as well as Cady's movement through Tennessee and North Carolina during the United States Civil War in 1864-1865. Most of the letters are addressed generally to his family and friends with a significant quantity explicitly directed to his parents and siblings. Floyd E. Risvold collected the letters and tintype as well as related material he used to exhibit the letters and accompanying illustrated envelopes at philatelic shows around 1960. The collection includes copies of an article by Risvold based on the letters: Floyd E. Risvold, "Indians and Rebels," Stamps (September 7, 1963).

The papers consist of correspondence concerning the publication and subscription sales of Wilson's works, especially his long poem "The Isle of Palms" (1812). In addition to letters between Wilson and the Glasgow booksellers John Smith and Son, there are also letters from subscribers, other booksellers, and customers to John Smith concerning the availability and distribution of the poem, including James and John Ballantyne and Longmans Ltd. The collection also contains a poem by Wilson, "Lines Raised to the memory of the Rev. James Grahame," and a subscription list for "The Isle of Palms."

The Camp Family Papers contains various correspondence and personal records collected by the Camp Family. Some of the correspondence includes letters from Reverend Albert Camp, his wife Frances Camp, their Daughter Nancy Camp, son Wallace Camp, and Aunt Mary Shears. The collection also contains sermon notes and sermons by Reverend Albert Camp, as well as instructions to household help from Frances Camp. Also in the collection are correspondence by Orton Camp Jr. sent to his parents detailing his time serving in World War II. Also from this same time period are photographs of Orton Camp Jr. and various army medals. Interesting to note is Orton Camp Jr.'s personal records, which contains letters from the Mattatuck Museum as well as Taft School.

Cuban revolution collection, 1955-1970

The collection consists of photographs, films, printed matter, memorabilia, and other materials documenting various periods in the Cuban Revolution, particularly the years 1957-1960, 1964, and 1969. The materials were primarily created by photographer Andrew St. George and filmmaker David C. Stone. St. George's photographs provide extensive documentation of the 26th of July Movement from 1957 to 1959, and of Fidel Castro during his first year as prime minister. The films created by David C. Stone in 1969 include footage of the Vento School, Juventud Comunista, Turcios Lima Labor Brigade, Urbano Noris sugar mill, and orientadores rurales. The footage was incorporated into Compañeras y Compañeros, a 1970 documentary produced by David C. Stone, Barbara Stone, and Adolfas Mekas, a copy of which is in the collection. There are outtakes of Canadian Broadcasting Corporation film from 1964 of scenes of Havana and Santiago and interviews with Fidel Castro, students, cabaret performers, and a female lieutenant in the revolutionary armed forces. The collection also includes a small amount of papers, some of which were compiled by Andrew St. George, including a manuscript notebook of an interview of Fidel Castro by St. George, medallions and ribbons from the 26th of July Movement, and miscellaneous printed materials.
