The Walter L. Pforzheimer Collection of Frank Richard Stockton contains correspondence, writings, photographs, artifacts, and other personal papers of Stockton and his family; drawings by illustrators of Stockton's works; writings about Stockton and adaptations of his works by others; and correspondence, notes, and related materials created by Pforzheimer in the course of his research and collecting. Correspondence includes autograph letters, signed, to and from Stockton, many with literary correspondents. Writings by Stockton include autograph manuscript and typescript drafts and fair copies, tear sheets from magazines, publisher contracts, advertisements, and scrapbooks of reviews. Also present are autograph manuscript diaries, accounts, notes, and juvenile writings by Stockton. Pen-and-ink and watercolor drawings, many with publisher's markings, include works by A. B. Frost, Charles Dana Gibson, Frederick Richardson, Frederic Dorr Steele, and other artists. Materials relating to the Stockton family include correspondence, scrapbooks, and photographs. Materials relating to Pforzheimer's research and collecting include vendor correspondence and receipts, notes, and card catalogs.

This collection documents the work of Alvah Hovey (1820-1903) who taught at Newton Theological Institution in Newton Centre, Massachusetts from 1849 to 1903 and was President of the Institution from 1868-1898.

Wesleyan University was founded in 1831 in Middletown, Conn.

William Butler Davis (1871-1937) was a graduate of the Wesleyan University class of 1894 and a musician. He served as a choirmaster, organist, and music teacher in Connecticut during his career.

The Nina Wilcox Putnam papers contain writings, correspondence, and other materials documenting the life and work of feminist and author Nina Wilcox Putnam. Writings consists chiefly of drafts of short stories and essays dating from the 1930s onward. There are drafts of a few novels, possibly unpublished, and a number of treatments, but the collection does not include material relating to Putnam's longer published works, or her children's book Sunny Bunny (1917), dating from the first two decades of her literary career. Correspondence consists of a small number letters with editors, publishers, and others dating from the early 1950s. The largest file exists for The Reader's Digest, but there are also letters from Gilbert Roland, Frank Scully, and Gloria Swanson. In addition, there are carbons of several outgoing letters dating from 1953 relating to an article by Putnam on Guatemala. Other materials include lists of works by Putnam documenting titles by genre and publisher.
