The Cos Cob Power Plant, an electrical power plant located in Greenwich, Connecticut, was part of a pioneering venture in mainline railroad electrification. With the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company, the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad designed an efficient system using alternating-current (ac) electrification that facilitated railroad traffic into urban areas after the New York legislature passed laws prohibiting the use of steam locomotives in New York City south of the Harlem River. Construction of the Cos Cob Power Plant was completed in 1907 and served as the generating station for power to the trains. The collection consists of blueprints and wiring diagrams for the electrical systems of the Woodlawn, New York, to New Haven, Connecticut, line, with architectural drawings, foremen's log books, records of coal received, and administrative correspondence.

Smith; collection touches on many aspects of the Smiths' interests, personal and public, scientific and literary; it illustrates their many friendships, especially with the family of William Roscoe (1753-1831) and the Holkham literary circle; especially interesting are the discussions of gardening and concerning the Linnean Society of England; on the whole it provides a well-rounded picture of Norfolk society and literature from the late 18th century to the mid 19th century; the collection includes several MS and printed poems.

The Marvin H. Pope Papers document the life and work of a prominent professor at Yale. Correspondence, notes, writings, course-related materials, collected materials, and audiovisual materials shed light on his academic work and his interactions with colleagues and students. Marvin H. Pope taught at Yale in the Department of Religious Studies and Divinity School from 1949 to 1986 and was one of the world's leading authorities on Ugarit. Pope made many contributions to biblical studies, which included helping to prepare the Revised Standard Version of the Bible and advising the National Council of Churches on the New Revised Standard Version. His scholarly output was prodigious, and he helped to bring the public's attention to the importance of Ugaritic texts in the study of the Bible. During his lifetime he published numerous scholarly articles and three major books, "El in the Ugaritic Texts" and two commentaries for the Anchor Bible Series: "Job" (1965) and "Songs of Songs" (1977). Pope is remembered for his wit, which made him a popular professor during his years at Yale. .

Correspondence documents the activities of Warner's immediate and extended family, and documents their opinions on sectionalism and slavery. The collection includes letters written by his brother, George Washington Warner, which document his emigration to California in 1852, as well as his activities in Washington Territory and Idaho Territory until 1865. Business records in the collection chiefly consist of deeds, contracts, and other legal instruments related to real estate transactions in Ashtabula County, as well as property tax assessments.

Bruce Nugent's correspondence consists of family, professional, and personal correspondence, including letters from homosexual love interests. Writings include poetry, short non-fiction pieces, and various fiction pieces, including the novel Gentleman Jigger. Writings by others include drafts and papers relating to Gay Rebel of the Harlem Renaissance by Thomas H. Wirth. Photographs consist of portraits and snapshots of Nugent, his love interests, friends, and family. The bulk of the audiovisual materials consist of interviews with Nugent. Printed materials include books inscribed to Nugent as well as various clippings and ephemera.

This collection includes correspondence, writings, photographs, films, and other documentation of the life and work of John Gillespie Magee, his son John Gillespie Magee, Jr. and other family members. The Rev. John G. Magee (1884-1953), a graduate of Yale University, served as a missionary to China under the Episcopal Church for twenty-eight years. John G. Magee witnessed the Japanese invasion of Nanking (Nanjing) in December of 1937 and the subsequent Nanking Massacre. At great risk to his own well-being and safety, Magee filmed and photographed atrocities perpetrated by the Japanese soldiers against the citizens of Nanking, He was later able to smuggle these films out of Nanking, providing evidence and witness to the war crimes that had taken place. This collection also includes the papers of John G. Magee, Jr. (1922-1941), eldest son of John G. and Faith Magee. John G. Magee, Jr. wrote the well-known poem "High Flight" prior to his death at the age of nineteen while on active service in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. The papers regarding John G. Magee, Jr. document his life through his writings, photographs, and correspondence.

This collection is comprised primarily of research materials collected by Eunice Johnson in her study of Timothy Richard (1845-1919), a Welsh Baptist missionary, statesman, and educator who spent forty-five years in China. The collected resources were used by Eunice Johnson in the writing of her Ph.D. dissertation, "Educational Reform in China, 1880-1910: Timothy Richard and his Vision for Higher Education." The collection includes photocopies and some originals of writings by and about Timothy Richard, as well as information about China during the time period when Timothy Richard was active there. The collection also includes memorabilia from the Centennial Celebration of Shanxi University (1902-2002), of which Timothy Richard was a co-founder.

The records date from the organization's founding in 1949 and include administrative correspondence, application files, financial and fund-raising records, internal reports, audio recordings and transcripts of guest lectures and craft discussions, audio recordings of board meetings and play readings, photographs, scrapbooks holding clippings about the organization, artwork and production materials for New Dramatists newsletters and publications, and other files related to the group's management and activities, including the ScriptShare program. Prominent in the collection are more than seven hundred play and screenplay scripts which formed a script library at the New Dramatists' office. They include drafts and final scripts by playwrights Robert Anderson, James Baldwin, Sydney Chandler, James Leo Herlihy, Romulus Linney, John McGowan, Lanford Wilson, and John Wolfson, among others, some of which are annotated with production notes. Unique to the collection are a group of whimsical doodles created by theatre celebrities and a set of autographed sign-in boards from the New Dramatists' annual spring luncheons (1980-1996). With the exception of one play script from 1931, the records primarily date from the organization's founding in 1949 through the 1988-1989 season.

The collection consists of 142 drawings and watercolors by twenty-seven artists who were commissioned by the Century Company to create illustrations for their popular periodicals The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine and St. Nicholas Magazine, in particular to illustrate stories for children. Most of the drawings have paper labels or production marks in crayon on their versos indicating the magazine, volume number, and projected page number where the images were to appear, the section of the magazine (such as "Open Letters" to the editor or the "In Lighter Vein" departments), prices paid to the artists, and notes such as "Plate wanted," "Blueprint at once," and "Great Haste!" While many prominent illustrators from the era are included in the collection, those represented by the largest number of drawings are Reginald B. Birch (10), Harrison Cady (9), Oliver Herford (22), Charles M. Relyea (47), and I. W. Taber (8).

Sprague Gas Meter Company was a manufacturing firm headquartered in Bridgeport, Connecticut and founded in 1900. Over the next 85 years, it developed meters featuring new methods for measuring and dispensing gas, along with many other technologically-novel products geared toward industrial machinery, home security, cooking and defense, made and stored within plants located across the U.S. and abroad. Sprague was bought out by the diversifying corporation Textron in 1961 and then sold to a firm concentrating on oil and semiconductor production in 1985, when it left Bridgeport. This collection consists of newspaper articles, advertisements and catalogs, usage and repair guides, factory newsletters, convention materials, newsletters, photographs, and oral histories.

The Slow Loris Press was a independent non-profit venture headed by Anthony and Patricia Petrosky. The Slow Loris Press focused on publishing a poetry magazine called Rapport which evolved into a more wide ranging format with the start of the Slow Loris Reader (SLR) in 1978. The Press also published chapbooks and broadsides. It ceased operation in 1984 principally due to insufficient financial support.

The Alexander Metcalf Fisher papers consist of correspondence, scientific and personal writings, school notes, eulogies, and other material by or about the Yale College student (Class of 1813) and Yale professor. Drafts and calculations for articles on mathematics, physics, astronomy, and other subjects published between 1817 and 1822, as well as scripts for forty lectures in natural philosophy, illustrate Fisher's academic career in the context of contemporary scientific learning. Documenting the social, economic, religious, and emotional life of a young man living in New England during the Early Republic are extensive correspondence written by Fisher to his parents from 1809-1821, and eight personal and travel diaries. Correspondents also include other relatives, the Fisher family's pastor Nathanael Emmons, and Yale affiliates. Also contained in the collection is a portrait of Fisher engraved on copper by Simeon Smith Jocelyn.

The papers provide insight into Seligmann's work as a surrealist painter and engraver and his circle of friends, many of whom were artists and writers. Correspondents include Nicolas Calas, Alexander Calder, Pierre Courthion, Enrico Donati, Jean Dubuffet, Charles Duits, Georges Duthuit, George W. Federoff, Fernand Léger, Pierre Mabille, Robert Motherwell, Tarō Okamoto, Amédée Ozenfant, Wolfgang Paalen, Kay Sage, and Yves Tanguy. Correspondence with collectors and gallerists can also be found in the papers. The correspondence sheds light on Seligmann's efforts following his move to the United States to provide support for his friends left in France during World War II. Correspondence and newspaper clippings provide evidence of Seligmann's work to organize exhibitions of surrealist artwork.

The largest series, Writings, includes drafts and circulating versions of dozens of works of drama and prose by Ron Whyte, including many unproduced plays. The documentation of Whyte's writings also includes material from his time as a student, spanning from high school to graduate study at the Yale School of Drama and the Union Theological Seminary. The papers also include a substantial quantity of audio recordings of dramatic works written or produced by Whyte. Other material, including subject files and unsorted papers, documents the varied and prolific career of Whyte, including his advocacy for people with disabilities.

Correspondence, writings, research files, personal papers, photographs, printed material and other papers documenting both the professional and personal activities of Donald Gallup as scholarly bibliographer, editor, curator of the Yale Collection of American Literature, and book and manuscript collector on his own account. The majority of the collection consists of Gallup's own papers, including personal, professional and editorial correspondence; a small amount of personal papers; research files; and typescripts and galley proofs of many of his publications, including his editions of the journals of Thornton Wilder and several volumes of works by Eugene O'Neill. Correspondents include the authors James Purdy, Sheri Martinelli, and Mary Bernetta Quinn and the Yale librarian James T. Babb. In addition, the collection contains some of the letters and papers by Modernist writers collected by Gallup personally and donated by him to Yale. The most extensive of these groups is the collection of letters by T. S. Eliot in Group X. Recipients include Arnold Bennett, Richard Cobden-Sanderson, Edgar Jepson, Alida Monro and Harold Monro, Brigit Patmore, John Carroll Perkins, and Donald Gallup himself. Publishers' correspondence and book contracts of Carl Van Vechten are found in Group V., while Group VII. and Group VIII. contain copies of articles and ephemera by and related to Ezra Pound and a small amount of Pound correspondence. Correspondence, writings, and writings of others comprise the bulk of the papers. The correspondence records his personal and professional relationships and chronicles his 1953 and 1954 trials for sedition and conspiracy and his publication process. Writings document Lowenfels's work as a writer, editor and anthologist, including drafts of his prose, poetry, drama, essays, and articles. The writings also document his work for the Pennsylvania edition of the Daily Worker. The writings of others reveal Lowenfels's work editing anthologies and collections of works by other writers. Photographs include snapshots of Lowenfels, his family and friends, his home and other subjects. Printed material contains clippings, tearsheets, ephemera, and other printed material concerning Lowenfels and other subjects of his interest. The collection contains documents related to the administrative, financial, social and cultural functions of the University of Connecticut League from 1966-201998. Founded "to promote social and friendly relations within, and to provide worthwhile service to the University and community," the UConn League has sponsored a variety of social, cultural, and fundraising events for the local and UConn communities and for its own membership.

The Polish American Historical Association (PAHA) was established in 1942 to promote the study of immigration of Poles to the United States. For the first presidents of the organization, it was important to promote scholarly knowledge of Poles and Polish Americans, collect and preserve information on the topic, and elevate historical research. PAHA attracted many scholars, secular and clergy, in the fields of history and ethnic studies. The organization promoted their mission through the publication of the Polish American Studies journal. The collection consists of material documenting the history of the organization and its various activities. It includes correspondence material from annual meetings and conferences as well as membership and financial data.

The Kilpatrick collection of Cherokee manuscripts consists of material created and accumulated by Jack Kilpatrick and Anna Gritts Kilpatrick, dating from the 1890s to the 1960s. The material, entirely in the Cherokee syllabary, documents vernacular literacy in the Cherokee language, the practice of traditional medicine, social aspects of Christian religion and church organizations, dates and circumstances of death, funerary practices, and other topics relating to the history and culture of the Oklahoma Cherokee in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Medical formulae (also called prayers, incantations, conjurations, or sacred formulae) were collected from Cherokee practitioners by Jack Frederick and Anna Gritts Kilpatrick in the 1960s. Portions of these manuscripts have been published in English translation and/or transliterated Cherokee, and citations to published sources have been noted in the contents list.

A large proportion of the papers concern the business affairs of Joseph Higbee of Trenton, Nathaniel Pendleton of New York, Thomas Woodruff and John Beatty, presidents of the Trenton Banking Company and Robert Morris of Philadelphia. Also in the papers are letters by several United States presidents, cabinet officers, Supreme Court justices and governors.

The papers consist of correspondence, writings, subject files, memorabilia, photographs, financial records, and other papers detailing the professional career and personal life of Anson Phelps Stokes and family members, including Olivia, Caroline and Helen Stokes. Papers relating to Anson Phelps Stokes document his work with prominent educators, reformers, religious leaders, businessmen, and politicians. Stokes's work on behalf of black education, social issues, and the Phelps-Stokes Fund are detailed. His religious activities, Yale University work, and family interests are also represented, as are Stokes's work on behalf of the Portsmouth Treaty of 1905 and the Yale-China Association. Papers relating to Helen Phelps Stokes include material relating to the Socialist Party and the National Civil Liberties Bureau.
