This collection primarily consists of personal correspondence between sea captain Charles Chadwick, his wife Mary Rowland Chadwick, and their daughter Mary Amelia Chadwick of Lyme, Connecticut. The letters were written while Charles was away at sea during the period 1828-1851. Also included are miscellaneous documents pertaining to ship and family business.

This collection contains historic photographs of East Lyme, Connecticut dating from the late 1800s to mid 1900s. Local schools, businesses, events, people, and areas of town are among the subjects documented.

The collection contains information about East Lyme landmarks and institutions, including historic houses, mills, schools, churches, memorials and monuments quarries, a women's prison, and a National Guard camp.

This collection of newspaper clippings, photos, personal notes, and other papers related to the history of East Lyme, Connecticut was put together by Olive Tubbs Chendali, who was Town historian from 1987-1999.
