Printed patents, reports and related material on his system for the radio control of torpedoes, inventions for musical instruments and scrapbooks of newspaper clippings and congressional publications about Hammond and his work. Half the collection is made up of clippings.

Correspondence and printed material concerning the business affairs of the Consolidated Gold Fields of South Africa, the economic development of South Africa, and the Jameson Raid; together with articles and speeches (1893-1934) relating to Hammond's activities as a speechmaker in behalf of the Republican Party, organizer of the National League of Republican Clubs, special ambassador and representative of President William Howard Taft to the coronation of George V, king of Great Britain, and vice-president of the Boys' Clubs of America. Includes photostatic copies from the papers of Richard Olney, concerning Hammond's part in the Jameson Raid. Also included is a two volume set, The Autobiography of John Hays Hammond. Photographs of Hammond and his home are included in the papers.

The papers consist of correspondence, topical files, writings, legal and financial papers, photographs, scrapbooks, and audiovisual material documenting John Hay Whitney and Betsey Cushing Whitney and their extended family. The papers provide a substantive resource for the study of the private and public lives of the Whitney family, a prominent American family, widely known for its members' engagement in business, public service, government service, publishing, philanthropy, horse racing and breeding, and fine art collecting.

The records document the organization and activities of the John Hay Whitney Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to education and social welfare. The collection consists of correspondence, reports, meeting minutes, project and program files, fellowship recipient files, and financial records created and maintained by the organization. The records cover all aspects of the organization's activities from its inception in 1946 to shortly after its dissolution in 1983.

The John H. Barker Collection contains various photographs, advertisements, and documents detailing the artistic output of the industrial artists during the 1940s through the 1950s. Photographs include depictions of paintings of various Waterbury factories, including Anaconda Copper and American Brass Co., which were painted by John H. Baker. The collection also contains various advertisements for Anaconda and American brass that include artwork created by J.H. Barker. The collection also contains correspondence to J.H. Barker from Orton P. Camp and an announcement from Anaconda Vice President on the opening of the Ansonia Branch. The collection contains one folder of paintings of an undetermined factories from other artists, which were perhaps used as reference or research.

The collection consists of photographs of John Herrick Jackson depicting Skull and Bones members and building, crew team members, Jackson in crew uniform; and two etchings of Harkness Tower by Robert Kasimir.

This collection contains research materials for Hersey's novel The Call (1985), a fictional account of a missionary to China. John Hersey (1914-1993), a prominent American author, was born in Tianjin (Tientsin), China, the son of missionaries.

The John Hersey papers contain writings, correspondence, printed and audiovisual materials, scrapbooks, and family and personal papers. The collection consists of ten small donations made by Hersey between 1944 and 1967 and an acquisition of a major part of his archive in 1992. The early gifts by Hersey contain drafts and proofs for multiple works dating from the early 1940s through mid 1960s, including the successful and popular A Bell for Adano (1944), Hiroshima (1946), and The Wall (1950). The later 1992 acquisition contains additional writings, as well as correspondence and clippings files relating to writings, correspondence, scrapbooks, audiovisual material, and personal papers. Correspondence includes large files for the publishers Alfred A. Knopf and Hamish Hamilton, the literary agent Otis and Williams, The New Yorker, and outgoing letters from Hersey to his mother. Writings include materials relating to Hersey's first book, Men on Bataan (1942), and numerous later works, including White Lotus (1965), The Walnut Door (1977), The Call (1985), and Blues (1987).
