The papers are made up of the business records and correspondence of Jonathan Hiller and the family papers of his second wife, Abigail Allen Hiller. The records of Jonathan Hiller reflect his activities as a real estate manager and financial intermediary in New Haven between 1836 and 1847. Among his major correspondents are James E.P. Dean, Gerard Hallock, Benjamin Noyes, Seth Perkins Staples and N. Chandos Whiting. In the family correspondence (1824-1842), 161 of the 190 letters are addressed to Abigail Allen Hiller before her marriage in 1843. Another substantial group are the letters of the James Brewster family of New Haven.

The papers consist of correspondence, deeds, account books, estate records, architectural drawings, legal papers, notebooks, commonplace books, letterbooks, scrapbooks, daybooks, and miscellaneous papers documenting the personal lives and professional careers of three generations of the Hillhouse family of New Haven, Connecticut and New York. Major figures represented in the papers include: James Hillhouse (1754-1832), Mary Lucas Hillhouse (1785-1871), James Abraham Hillhouse (1789-1841), Augustus Lucus Hillhouse (1791-1859), and James Hillhouse (1854-1938). The papers document family relationships, personal activities, the business and legal careers of family members, political interests, and the architectural design of the family residence, Sachem's Wood.

Letters and documents concerning Hill's activities as ambassador to the Hague and envoy to the Savoy. Also includes letters from James Bateman regarding financial matters and political appointments; from James Cressett regarding Cressett's work as a diplomat; from George Dolman regarding the naval maneuvers of the frigate, Lyme, of which Dolman was captain; and from Richard Powys regarding the passing of Hill's bills at the Treasury.

This record group includes pamphlets, reports, and ephemera that were part of the library of the Himalayan Archives Association, a group was formed to coordinate care for the archives of four organizations that had been deposited at the University of Edinburgh in the early 1990s.The Himalayan Mission Archive Collection at the Yale Divinity School Library was formed in 2008 when the archives of the four organizations and their umbrella association were transferred to Yale from the Centre for the Study of World Christianity at the University of Edinburgh.

The papers consist of correspondence and orders relating to Hipolite Dumas's service in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Dumas was an officer and served in New Orleans, Mobile, Virginia, and Delaware.

Collection of amateur films created by Hartford inventor and businessman, Hiram Percy Maxim.

The Hiram P. Maxim II papers contain house histories as well as information on local cemeteries, and an early film depicting Lyme scenes.

The Hiram S. Spencer Ledger collection (2011-35-0) is a personal account book that was used by Hiram S. Spencer. The book has records of money received and given ranging from purchasing wagon irons to receiving money for "five days works haying." Spencer served in Company A, Second Regiment, C.V. Heavy Artillery, from 1862-65, but there are no Civil War expenditures or notations in the ledger.

An artificial record group that contains materials on the Battle of Bennington Sesquicentennial, Connecticut Commission on the Chicago International Exposition of 1933, Connecticut State Commission on the New Sweden Tercentenary, United States Constitution Bicentennial Commission of Connecticut, and the Yorktown Sesquicentennial Celebration.
