The papers contain correspondence, account books, and other material documenting the personal lives and professional careers of members of the Frost family. Correspondence of William Frost details his political activity in the Maine Territory, Jeffersonian politics in Massachusetts, and the Embargo Act. Material relating to Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain's Civil War duties is scarce. His years as Bowdoin College president and his role in the election riot of 1880 are documented more fully. The collection consists of material relating to F. S. Joelson and his work as editor of the weekly newspaper, East Africa and Rhodesia, and as author of works on East Africa and colonialism. Material includes typescripts of works by or believed to be by Joelson; correspondence and printed material relating to the publication of Joelson's book Germany's Claim to the Colonies (1939); scrapbooks of clippings from the "Who's Who" column of East Africa; scrapbooks of clippings from other East African newspapers; and front page clippings of East Africa and East Africa and Rhodesia. Also included are originals and reproductions of caricatures and cartoons by Ralph Sallon and others. The collection provides insight into British perspectives on Africa during the colonial period of the early- and mid-twentieth century, and documents - in the form of caricature - many of the key figures of the British colony in East Africa prior to the Second World War.
Correspondence, speeches, scrapbooks, photographs and memorabilia documenting Davison's activities as founder of a Yale aviation unit during World War I, his political career in the Republican Party in New York State, his presidency of the American Museum of Natural History (1933-1951) and his activities in many foundations, academic institutions and philanthropies. The aspect of his life most thoroughly documented is his organization of a Yale flying unit, which was formally recognized by the Navy in 1917 for action in the war. The records include correspondence, financial and legal papers relating to the formation and operation of the unit, maps, photographs, ephemera and printed articles about the unit. A series of radio broadcasts (1941) on its history were recorded on phonograph discs (now in the Historical Sound Recordings of the Sterling Memorial Library) and slides made in 1966 in connection with a 50th anniversary celebration are also in the papers. Although his political career as a member of the New York State Assembly (1922-1926) and as Assistant Secretary of War (Air) from 1926 to 1933 is reflected in only a small amount of correspondence and speeches, he was in touch with notable public figures. Among them are Robert E. Byrd, Calvin Coolidge, Charles G. Dawes, Thomas Dewey, Dwight Eisenhower, Herbert Hoover, Charles A. Lindbergh, Douglas MacArthur, Robert Moses, Ernie Pyle, Eddie Rickenbacker, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Theodore Roosevelt.
Lucia Pickering Wheatland married John Fulton, who was in Oxford on a Rhodes fellowship, in 1923. The collection contains correspondence from Lucia and John Fulton in Oxford to Lucia's parents, Richard and Mary Wheatland, in Massachusetts. John Fulton was named professor of physiology at Yale in 1929.
The Furioso papers consist of correspondence, manuscripts of submissions, editorial board files, and other office files relating to the publishing history of Furioso; a Magazine of Verse (1939-1953). Correspondents include E. E. Cummings, Richard Eberhart, Weldon Kees, Lawrence Olson, Ezra Pound, Peter Viereck, and William Carlos Williams. Manuscripts are primarily typescripts and setting typescripts of submissions to Furioso. The office files include advertising and publicity material, the correspondence and decisions files of the editorial board, and financial documents.
The papers consist of printed materials and photographs which document the daily activities of American prisoners of war at Stalag III B and the role of Von Fricken as their social welfare officer. F. W. Von Fricken, an officer of the German Supreme Command, served as social welfare officer in charge of American prisoners of war at Stalag III B, Fürstenberg an der Oder, during World War II.
The papers include correspondence; and legal, financial, and personal papers (the bulk of which are in Spanish or English) and relate to Naphegyi's professional association with Santa Anna and to his own financial problems.
