Papers and other materials collected by Edward G. Levy, relating to temperance and prohibition, most 19th-early 20th centuries, most from the United States, with a small amount of material about temperance in Great Britain. Materials include documents and fragments, signed, by temperance advocates Marie Caroline Brehm, John B. Gough, Theobald Mathew, and John G. Woolley; a circular letter of the American Temperance Society, 1832; printed license and tax documents issued by the United States government, 1794-1929; clippings, including a scrapbook relating to the Woman's Christian Temperance Union in Connecticut, 1887-1888; postcards issued by the Association Against the Prohibition Amendment, undated; trade cards and other advertising materials of manufacturers of alcoholic beverages, circa 1865-1885 and undated; buttons, medals, and paper fans advertisting temperance organizations and beverage manufacturers, 1895-1930s and undated; and beverage bottles, bottle labels, and a brass whiskey tap, undated.

Thirteen hours of interviews, done in 2001-2002 by Justin Ruben, with Edward Grant, New Haven African-American activist; photocopies of Ruben's interview notes; and "The Sometimes Angry Not So Young Black Man of New Haven," a paper written by Ruben for History 454a (graduate course in American history), based on the Grant interviews.

The papers document the career of Edward H. Hume, a physician and educator, whose major work was divided between China, where he founded the Hunan-Yale Medical College (1914) and New York, where he was trustee and director of the New York Post-Graduate Medical School and Hospital (1928-1933). His life-long interest in Chinese medical problems is shown in his correspondence with members of the Yale-in-China Association staff. His subject files document the history of the various institutions of the Yale Mission in China, as well as political events during his stay. The papers also include copies of Hume's published and unpublished writings, newspaper clippings, and photographs. Lotta C. Hume's training as a nurse was put to use in India and China where she lived with her husband (1903-1927). Manuscripts of two books and a number of articles which she wrote on her return to the United States are in the papers. Of special interest are her research materials on Chinese and Tibetan folk tales, collected for a book on that subject. Apart from a letter on the Changsha riots in 1910, her correspondence is largely devoted to family matters.

The materials consist of photographs of Edward H. Knight (Yale 1898) depicting Yale buildings, student life, sports on Old Campus, and scenes of New Haven, Connecticut.

Miscellaneous papers of E. H. Knight, mostly relating to his year at Yale College, 1897-1898. Included are nine notebooks with his notes on the lectures of William Lyon Phelps, Oliver H. Richardson, William Graham Sumner and A. M. Wheeler. In addition there is a history paper by Albert R. Palmer (Y.1901), correspondence relating to Knight's admission to Yale, two family letters, college memorabilia and a genealogy.

Edward Ingraham was born in Bristol, Connecticut. He was the great-grandson of Elias Ingraham. Mr. Ingraham was the president of the E. Ingraham Company from 1927- 1954. He died in 1972 at the age of 85.

Looseleaf notebooks of sermons, prayers, and programs document Vorba's work as a Congregational minister. Edward James Vorba, a 1947 graduate of the Yale Divinity School, was a pastor at churches in Iowa, Vermont, Florida, Connecticut, New York, and Pennsylvania from 1947 to 1985.

This collection details Edward Bartek’s experiences in the Pacific during World War II. The collection contains video of oral history interview, journals, photographs. The materials provide information on various military engagements in the Pacific from Kiska to New South Wales. Along with evidence of U.S. military moral and courage the collection brings to light the impact of war related stress and isolation on military personnel.

In the 1950s, Brady, an employee of what was then the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad (commonly referred to as the New Haven) and is now part of Amtrak, developed an interest in the Shepaug railroad branch. He acquired original New Haven records that provide detailed documentation of the crossings, bridges, and abutting structures. Records also document original rights of way and the New Haven's unsuccessful and successful petitions to abandon the line in the 1930s and 1940s. In 1973, Brady used these documents to write a description of the Shepaug branch, two copies of which are in the collection. There are also photographs, generally from the 1920s, of railroad crossings and structures.
