The Connecticut Optometric Society, formerly known as the Connecticut State Optical Society, was organized July 29, 1908. The records include minutes of meetings, correspondence, reports, membership lists, and general records of the society.

In 1927, State Representative Julia Emery of Stamford formed the Connecticut Order of Women Legislators, the first in the nation. Its objectives were to promote a network and decide on priority legislation. In 1938, Ms. Emery led a movement to establish a national order. Today the OWL promotes a legislative agenda for the General Assembly. This group contains guest books, a list of female legislators in Connecticut, 1921-1945, state and national by-laws, group photographs, and 6 scrapbooks, 1937-1984. The Connecticut Peace Society appears to have been established in 1910, "to foster the spirit of amity and concord among the nations, and to create a public sentiment which will lead to the abandonment of war as a means of settling international disputes."

In February 1891, a group of sixteen peach growers under the leadership of the Secretary of Agriculture, Theodore S. Gold, met in the State Capitol to talk about the formation of a fruit society. In December of that same year, forty growers met and elected John Smith of New Britain as president. Since its founding, the Connecticut Pomological Society has been involved in development of pest management and disease control for Connecticut's orchards.

The Connecticut Post has its origins in two newspapers: the morning edition Bridgeport Telegram and the evening edition Bridgeport Post. Prior to extensive news on the television, a morning and evening paper were not uncommon in most major cities. The material within this collection reflects the political events on a local and national scale as featured in the Post during the 1970s and 1980s.

The records document the history of the Connecticut Public Health Association (1974) and its predecessors. Most materials date from 1946-1993 and consist of correspondence, minutes, bylaws, constitutions, newsletters, officers' reports, and memoranda relating to the business of the organizations. These papers form part of the Contemporary Medical Care and Health Policy Collection.

The Connecticut Public Transportation Authority was created within the Department of Transportation (DOT) in 1975 to "advise and assist the commissioner in the performance of his functions and duties relating to the planning, development and maintenance of adequate rail and motor carrier facilities and service in the state." The Authority was charged to "at least annually…hold public hearings in each of the urbanized areas of the state for the purpose of evaluating the adequacy of such rail and motor carrier facilities." In 1983 the name was changed to the Connecticut Public Transportation Commission.

Correspondence, reports, memoranda, minutes of meetings, grant requests, program descriptions, and printed material documenting the origin and history of the program in Connecticut.Task Force reports of the mid-1960s outlining Connecticut's health care system at that time offer a valuable record of medical and dental facilities then in operation. The annual reports and program evaluations issued between 1967 and 1976 provide an ongoing account of the progress of CRMP's work. The correspondence includes many agencies, national, regional and state, which cooperated in this program as well as prominent individuals. One of the important aspects of the collection is a large volume of printed matter: reports, speeches, articles, bibliographies, programs, etc. on the subject of public health. These papers form part of the Contemporary Medical Care and Health Policy Collection.
