Collections

The collection consists of over three hundred posters and related oversized material which document the government and politics of South Africa, primarily from the era of apartheid to the first democratic elections open to all races in 1994. Many of the posters represent numerous political parties, organizations against apartheid, and voter education groups. The cultural life of the country is represented by materials pertaining to South African poets and artists.

The collection consists of postcards depicting scenes from various countries on the African continent.

The collection consists of forty-eight black and white postcards from the Belgian Propoganda Ministry following the invasion of German East Africa in 1917. Although German forces in German East Africa were never defeated, the postcards show 'Occupied' German East Africa.

The collection consists of handbills (chirashi), press kits, theater pamphlets, film newsletters, and catalogs that date from circa 1970 to the present. The collection documents over 600 contemporary Japanese directors and their films, as well as major film festivals and events in Japan. The bulk of the materials were generated in Japan and are in Japanese, however, some English-language publicity materials are included. The collection offers a substantial resource for researchers investigating contemporary Japanese film, as well as individual films and filmmakers.

The collection is comprised of 1284 film posters, 156 film lobby cards, and 96 film press books from Arab countries. The majority of the items are from Egypt, but include pieces from Algeria, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and other countries.

It consists of legal documents concerning such issues as marriage, divorce, property, inheritance, and business dealings of all kinds. They are in Hebrew, Judeo-Arabic, Judeo-Spanish, Arabic, French, Spanish and Italian and date from the eighteenth to the mid-twentieth century.

Only a few of the speakers are identified, including Osama bin Laden. The topics covered are wide-ranging and include the Qurʾān, Islamic jurisprudence, religious obligations and practices, mujahideen, Jihad, religious instruction, women, marriage, divorce, roles and responsibilities of husbands and wives, youth, death, extremism, secularism, evangelical Christians, Jewish people, and events and conflicts in the regions represented. The recordings date primarily from the 1980s to 2000, although some date from as early as the 1960s. The recordings are comprised of commercially-produced releases, copies of commercially-produced releases, and amateur recordings.

The collection comprises eight colored promotional movie posters featuring topics such as the Korean War, space travel, horror, sports, and crime.

Collection of materials documenting British fascist, anti-fascist, and anti-Semitic political movements in the mid-twentieth century. Includes pamphlets, leaflets, and serially published newspapers and magazines produced by organizations such as the British Empire Union, British League, British Union of Fascists, Jewish People's Council Against Fascism and Anti-Semitism, and Trades Advisory Council. Also includes a small group of rare Muslim anti-fascist leaflets.

The AIDS Collection consists of printed materials, including reports, newsletters, pamphlets, posters, and flyers, related to the prevention, treatment, and status of AIDS in various countries.

The Collier W. Baird Collection contains the film, "Lucky Lindbergh," which documents Charles Lindbergh's departure from and return to the United States during the first nonstop solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean in 1927.

The collection consists of various documents collected by William Jay Foltz from the 1960s through the 1990s relating to political developments and conflicts in Senegal, Mali, Ghana, Chad, Nigeria, Uganda, Southern Rhodesia, Kenya and South Africa.

Included are gifts received from the president of Wuhan University in the People's Republic of China, Moscow State University, Famille Aycardi Archives, and the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

The materials consist of photographs, posters, and renderings of set designs and contact sheets documenting Yale School of Drama productions, including performances at the Yale Repertory Theatre, events, and individuals.

The memorabilia consists of ephemera, photographs, and a thesis documenting Lewis M. Porter (Yale 1924S) as a student and alumnus of Yale.
