The papers consist of letters from Helene Novikoff to her son Boris, while he was employed by the Gold Coast Selection Trust Limited, a gold mining company, in West Africa. The almost daily letters, written in Russian by Helene Novikoff from her home in England, concern her health, finances, and routine activities.

The records consist of correspondence, gift account records, and news releases documenting the development of the Bosch Mineral Collection in the Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale University.

The records also include sixty-two account books.

The principal figure in these papers is William Lewis Bostwick, the recipient of the approximately 213 letters which make up the collection. The letters were written to him while he was attending Jubilee College in Illinois and then Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. They are from family, friends, and teachers, and discuss student life, church matters, and family news with particular attention to the cost of Bostwick's education.

The collection consists of printed material relating to political and social conditions, and development in Botswana.

The papers contain correspondence, notes, and reports on politics in Connecticut and New Hampshire during the Reconstruction Era, forestry and timber lands, and Yale alumni activities in Washington, D.C., plus a small collection of autograph letters and clipped signatures.

The papers, which are largely from the 19th century, include Civil War letters, account books by a New Haven manufacturer, and a photograph album. There are also World War I letters from Edward H. Bradley.
