The collection consists of correspondence, journals, photographs, maps, printed material and other papers, documenting four generations of the Borton family and their military and personal experiences within the First Anglo-Afghan War (1839-1842), the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1843-1880), the First Anglo-Sikh War (1845-1846), also known as the Sutlej campaign, the Crimean War (1853-1856), the Second Boer War (1899-1902), the First World War (1914-1918), India, Iraq, Mauritius and many other postings throughout the world.

The Boswell Collection contains the correspondence, diaries, and manuscripts of author James Boswell; estate records, letters, personal and professional papers, and other materials documenting the lives and careers of ten generations of Boswells and their possession of the barony of Auchinleck; and correspondence relating to the political career of Alexander Bruce, Earl of Kincardine.

The papers primarily document the administration of the debt-burdened estate of Auchinleck after the death of Sir Alexander Boswell in 1822. They include business and legal correspondence; accounts, receipts, valuations and other estate records; the process of the settlement of Sir Alexander Boswell's heritable estate; and other financial and personal papers.
The papers also contain material pertaining to the related family of Douglas of Garallan, including land records, financial papers, and business correspondence. In addition, there are letters by Charles Douglas, a planter in Jamaica, concerning many aspects of his life and career, such as his ownership of slaves and opinions about slavery, immigrant life in Jamaica, and the impact of the Napoleonic Wars on the Caribbean. The letters of Patrick Charles Douglas Douglas Boswell describe his efforts to establish himself as a tea planter in India in the early 1880s.

The collection consists mainly of letters and writings by or pertaining to various members of the Boswell of Auchinleck family. Series III includes seventeen journals of weather conditions and work assignments on the Auchinleck estate.

The Bourne Family Papers consists of materials that document the lives of abolitionist, minister and newspaper editor George Bourne, his wife Mary Oland Stibbs Bourne and their descendants. The majority of materials in the collection document the professional careers of George Bourne and his son Theodore Bourne. George Bourne's papers include an Anti-Slavery Lecture of 1837 along with other religious writings. Theodore Bourne's papers chiefly relate to African American repatriation organizations such as the African Christian Civilization Society. Correspondence between the Bourne and Stibbs family in England and the United States document George and Mary Bourne's new life as they settled throughout the United States. Poems written by members of the Bourne Family and others such as abolitionists James Montgomery, Helen Maria Williams and John Greenleaf Whitter are also included.

Collection of British, American and French prints depicting boxers and boxing scenes, as well as political cartoons depicting opponents boxing. Includes portraits of Daniel Mendoza and Belasco, Jewish boxers. Captions below prints of boxers include statistical information.

The collection contains correspondence, writings, and personal papers relating to Brendan Gill, a staff writer at The New Yorker magazine from the late 1930s through the 1990s. In addition to professional correspondence, there are letters between Gill and his wife Anne Barnard and other family members. Writings include materials relating to Gill's shorter works, written for The New Yorker and other magazines, and to several of his books, including two early novels, The Trouble of One House (1950) and The Day the Money Stopped (1957), a memoir, Here at the New Yorker (1975), and biographical works, Tallulah (1972), Lindbergh Alone (1980), and Many Masks (1987). Materials include drafts, proofs, research materials, artwork and photographs relating to works, and clippings (reviews). The collection also contains a considerable amount of personal and family records, including diaries, passports, photograph albums, and scrapbooks.

Letters to Brenton regarding his book, "The Naval History of Great Britain." Mainly compliments to Brenton on the book. Some express interest in purchasing it, and some offer to give further information to help his research. Some, including George Cockburn, James De Saumarez, Richard Keats, and David Milne, include further information in their letters.

The papers contain diaries, artwork, and an album of Elizabeth Bates Brewster and her daughters Ada Augusta Brewster, Mary Brewster Long, and Elizabeth Brewster Scribner. Subjects discussed include child rearing and family life, nursing during the Civil War, school teaching, and life in Nevada and California.
