Diary #1 contains entries from Nov. 4, 1903 to Aug. 14, 1906. Diary #2 has entries from Aug. 14, 1906 to Nov. 27, 1908. In the front flyleaf of Diary# I Lewis' daughter, Margaret Lewis Pratt, wrote , "This Journal was written by my father, Lawrence L. Lewis, beginning on the day on which he entered into law practice in Waterbury, Conn. with Nathaniel Bronson. At that time my father was 22 years old. He continued to practice law in Waterbury until Jan. I, 1953, when he was 72 years old." The Diaries contain daily entries about the work life of a lawyer, politics, and his personal time. There are a few newspaper clippings and photographs glued on pages.
