Most of these records relate almost exclusively to the Writers' Project. The Writers' Project was initiated was initiated late in 1935 as a part of the Federal Project No. 1, which also embraced programs in art, music and the theater and was later to include the Historical Records Survey. Federal sponsorship ended in July 1939, but most of the projects were carried on with local sponsors (in many cases the State Library). The first undertaking of the Writers' Project was the preparation of the Connecticut volume of the American Guide series, published in 1938. Subsequently many other manuscripts and reports were written1, most of them intended for publication by State or local government sponsors.
The collection consists of the original and subsequent constitutions, one volumes of meeting minutes, lists of members, and accounts which are records of fines levied on members for not attending meetings.

Included are various financial papers kept by Willis H. Birge: an account book, 1880-1938; an account book for a sawmill, 1880-1885; two volumes of cash payments, 1880-1902; a volume of cash received, 1879-1902; and various bills and receipts, 1885-1914. There are two additional account books. One belonged to Henry Birge, 1850-1859, 1876. The other, with entries dating 1799-1802, 1843-1847, is unidentified although the later entries were added by Henry. There are also two cabinet card photographs dated 1859. One is of Henry Birge. The other is of his wife Eliza holding the infant Willis H. Birge.

Boardman relating to genealogy, 1889-1892; descriptions of coats of arms of Boardman and allied families; historical extracts on the Boardman and allied families; genealogies of the Boardman, Francis, Deming and Wright families; and a record book of the Boardman Family Association, 1886-1888.
The records of Governor William A. O'Neill consist primarily of constituent and agency correspondence, 1978-1991, that are organized into a single Series called Constituent Correspondence and then arranged by topic or subject alphabetically into Sub-series. The Governor's Office received hundreds of letters every day. Staff liaisons assigned to different State agencies generally handled the correspondence related to their subject areas. Staff members whose names regularly appear include Jane Ciarleglio, Chris Cooper, Marilynn Cruz-Aponte, Ann DeNoia, Yasha Escalera, Barbara Gordon, Robert Grant, Michael Hanley, Lee Hawkins, Betty Hudson, Ann Obuchowksi, Linda Poltorak, and Joe Prevusnak. The Governor's Chief of Staff was Chad McCollam.
Gov. Wilbur L. Cross's records are correspondence and subject files related to state agencies, commissions, legislative bills, and appointments among other topics.

Much of the correspondence pertains to the Read and Snow families from the effort to prove Nellie A. Faxon's Mayflower descent. Most of the material related to patriotic societies concerns Mrs. Faxon. Included are her application and membership certificate to the Daughters of the American Revolution; correspondence concerning her membership in the Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America, as well as by-laws of that organization; applications to the Society of Mayflower Descendents along with correspondence regarding the whereabouts of her genealogical chart; and applications to the Society of Sons of the American Revolution. Also present are Walter C. Faxon's membership certificates to the Society of Colonial Wars and the Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. Other items in the collection include correspondence and membership lists related to Mrs. Faxon's involvement with the YMCA Woman's Auxiliary; a genealogy chart that shows Walter C. Faxon's paternal lines; historical documents including a number of deeds from Lyme, Conn. dated 1746 to 1801; and photographs of both Walter C. and Nellie A. Faxon.

The papers include accounts, church papers, correspondence, court papers, deeds, estate papers, land papers, school society papers, tax lists, and turnpike papers. There are also writings, sketches and notes of Wedworth Wadsworth, the artist and writer. The correspondence is arranged alphabetically by recipient, with the bulk addressed to Wedworth Wadsworth and William Wadsworth from family members who emigrated out of state. The majority of the court papers come from William Wadsworth's work as Justice of the Peace. The school society papers come from Wedworth Wadsworth's service as a trustee. The school society oversaw the operation of the Center, South, West, South West, and Quarry school districts. The tax lists include individual returns of Durham residents and property holders for 1865-66 arranged alphabetically by name. There are also individual tax lists for Wedworth, James, and William Wadsworth. The turnpike papers relate to the Durham and East Guilford Turnpike, of which Wedworth Wadsworth was a director. The Durham and East Guilford Turnpike Company was chartered in 1811 and operated until 1845. Included are early subscriber lists, accounts, and toll receipts.

The material, dated 1861-1917, consists of the constitution; registers and rolls; reports and histories; correspondence; orders; treasurer's reports and receipted bills; menus, invitations and programs; clippings; photographs; printing blocks; and ribbons and badges. There are also copies of the Constitution and By-Laws and the Original Roll of the Hartford City Guard, 1861, and the Charter and By-Laws of the Veteran City Guard, 1886.
"The Emergence of Political Women in Connecticut: 1920-1945" project interviewed women who were active in the political life of Connecticut between 1920 and 1945. There are 21 transcripts.
This collection contains materials that document Connecticut's U.N. Day celebrations under Lowe. Materials include correspondence, photographs, mailing lists, lists of town United Nations Day chairmen, publicity leaflets and related materials.
Series 1, Genealogies, include in typescript or notebook format the Branford (Conn.) line, Wallingford (Conn.) line, Gloucester (Mass.) line, Boston line, Bowdoinham (Maine) line, Rhode Island line, and Southern lines, all undated. Also included is a printed copy of the Andover line, 1917. Series 2, Family group sheets, circa 1930-1932, consists of forms filled out by Tyler family members and sent to F. Webster Tyler, who was collecting information for an updated genealogy. Series 3, Correspondence, 1892-1947, consists primarily of letters containing genealogical information or replies to reunion invitations. The correspondence of Emma E. Brigham and Rollin U. Tyler include letters relating to the publications of the Tyler Genealogy, Volumes 1 and 2. Series 4, Address lists, 1928-1932, is comprised of lists maintained by F. Webster Tyler. Series 5, Genealogy notes, 1811-1925, include notes sent to F. Webster Tyler by various Tyler family members. Also present are notebooks of Rollin U. Tyler and some papers of Willard I.T. Brigham. Series 6, Reunions, 1929-1933, include programs and correspondence. Series 7, Tyler Family Association, 1896-1928, contains the constitution, membership list, and reunion reports from that predecessor organization. Series 8, Printed material, includes a Tyler photo book, undated. Series 9, Dora B. Leeson diary, 1909-1930, consists of notebook diaries of Leeson, who resided in Ridgefield, Conn.. The connection between Leeson and the Tyler Family is not known.
The papers were arranged into seven series which reflect Truman Smith's personal, political, legislative, and legal career in Connecticut, New York, and Washington, D.C. The series include Personal and Political Papers, Legislative Records, Legal Papers, Speeches, Press Files, Spiritual Writings, and Duplicates.
Military discharge papers, 1942, 1944-1947, 1949, 1952-1956, 1958-1961, 1966; Voter registration applications, 1944-1946, 1948, 1950, 1952, 1954, 1957-1960, 1963-1970, 1972. These application forms are called "Application by Member of the Armed Forces of the United States for Absentee Admission as an Elector" through January 1966. After that the forms are called "Application for Absentee Admission as an Elector".
The air raid shelter survey includes information on the classification of buildings as air raid shelters and building survey forms used to collect construction data on individual buildings.
Series 1. Administrative Records, 1832-1980, contain a variety of material including abatements, agreements an indentures, bonds, selectmen's accounts and correspondence, and financial records. Abatements covering 1732 to1942 list the name and amount of tax abated. By the 1870s the reason for abatement was also listed. Examples include error in original assessment, poverty, removal from town, or the fact that the person was a pensioner or soldier. Town officials were generally bonded and the records contain a number of bonds from 1879 to 1907 mostly for constables, tax collectors, and treasurers. There is also a folder of liquor license applications covering 1917 to 1919. The largest volume of records in series 1 is financial records. These contain various accounts receivable registers, check stubs, journals, ledgers, notes and bills payable, orders, permit registers, receipts and expenditures, and trial balance ledgers. Two volumes of ledgers may be from the municipal store, 1897-1903. These list individuals and items purchased with amounts paid. A group of files labeled "Special Matters" that cover 1951 to 1953 deal with some of the topics found in Series 9, Borough Records for earlier years such as highways, licenses and permits.
Series 1. Administrative Records, 1760-1938, 1971, contain a variety of papers including bonds, corporation reports, appointment of overseers, roads and highways, appointment of overseers, petitions, selectmen's report, town meeting notices and votes and treasurer's records. Nineteenth century town officials were generally bonded and the records contain bonds primarily for collector and constable although bonds for town clerk and treasurer are also present. There are also bonds for the keeping of a victualling house and for the sale of liquor. Corporations represented in the corporation reports are the Amenia and Sharon Land Company, Sharon Valley Malleable and Gray Iron Company, Sharon Valley Iron Company and Webotuck Mining Company. Appointments of overseers were made by selectmen over those who were not capable of handling their own affairs. Petitions to the selectmen ask for special town meetings to be called. Reasons include a proposed addition to the town hall, selling of liquor, taxes, auditing of town treasurer and collector, and the alteration of a highway from Cornwall Bridge to Ellsworth. Town governments devoted considerable time and attention to the construction and maintenance of roads and highways. The bulk of the papers related to this activity are surveys but costs, assessments of damages, a description of highway districts, and receipts for maintenance are also present. Annual financial reports of the selectmen contain the type of information that is later printed in town reports. The bulk of the town meeting notices and votes concern the annual election of officers and adopting of town resolutions. Among the treasurer's records are four volumes of journals, two volumes of town orders, as well as correspondence, orders received from justices of the peace, notes for money owed the town, receipts for payments made, and annual reports. Also present is an 1829 copy of the patent for Sharon and a 1879 copy of the resolution incorporating the town.
Preston Town Records consist of twenty-nine boxes and twenty-one volumes and the materials are divided into ten different series. Administrative Records comprise the largest series, followed by Tax Records, Court Records, and School Records.
Pomfret Town Records consist of seventeen boxes and the papers are arranged in ten series. Tax Records forms the largest series, followed by Election Records, Administrative Records, and Court Records.
