Small number of documents for many railroads represented in this box, including the Boston, Hartford & Erie Railroad, the Connecticut Western Railroad, the Delaware & Hudson Railroad, the Delaware & New England Railroad, the Dutchess & Columbia Railroad, the Dutchess County Railroad, the Hartford & Connecticut Western Railroad and the Hudson Connecting Railroad. Of particular interest are two "wood checks," a metal tag that farmers received from the railroads for supplying, delivering, and leaving wood along the railroad tracks by the cord to be picked up by the railroad tenders to be used as fuel for steam engines. The wood checks are for the New York Central & Harlem River Railroad.
