Parts of this work were pub. as the
author's Ph.D. thesis, University of
Munich, 1906, and in his Studies in
English Faust literature I. The
English Wagner book of 1594, in the
series: Literarhistorische
Forschungen, Heft 35, 1907.

and signed "Goethe," dated "Weimar,
d. 3ten Novbr. 1819," designating
this to be Schiller's insertion in
his drama, used in the earlier
rehearsals by the prompter, until
a new copy had been made.
