This series consists of two subseries: Music by Karl Weigl and Music by Others. Weigl's music is arranged alphabetically by uniform title within each of the following groupings: Operas; Other Vocal Music, consisting of Cantatas, Choral Music, and Songs; Orchestral Music, including Concertos; Chamber Music; Keyboard Music; and Transcriptions. Almost all of Weigl's works are represented, with the exception of his symphonies, of which only the first is present. Most extensively covered are songs, choral works, cantatas, string quartets, and other chamber music. Individual songs and separate movements from song cycles and other works are filed in the order in which they appear in the complete work. Most materials are photoreproductions of holograph manuscripts; also present are original holographs, copyists's manuscripts, published music, and manuscript vocal texts. Fully described items are in many cases followed by brief descriptions of copies with annotations or photoreproductions produced by publishers such as the American Composers Alliance. Annotations by Karl Weigl, Vally Weigl, translators of vocal texts, or other musicians or editors reflect Weigl's creation and use of his manuscripts and continued use and promotion of his music by Vally Weigl.
