Material relating to the Cardiff Giant Hoax of 1869, which kept recurring in the news until 1918. Marsh was always skeptical. He was asked in 1869 to authenticate the giant, and concluded that the alleged giant was no fossil, but a hand-carved sculpture that had been buried in Onondaga County, New York, so that it might be exhumed in an attempt to deceive the public.
