after Berners' death. Bourchier
explains his father's plans to repay
Henry VIII. Hastings, who was an
executor and whose wife Bourchier
implies was his father's mistress,
has managed to take more than his
share of Berners' estate. Bourchier
wants to restore his father's honor
and pay off his debts, as well as to
dispense honestly with his wealth.

of Lacock Abbey, Wiltshire, who had
been arrested for treason with
Somerset's brother, Sir Thomas
Seymour, Lord Sudeley.

nephew, with these instructions to
acquaint Duke John Casimir "sith

hither". The principal cause was
the unwelcome news that the Estates
had invited the Duke of Alencon
and Anjou to come to their aid
against Spain. This document
embodies a detailed summary, drawn
up for Casimir, of the whole course
of the negotiations, both in France
and in the Low Countries.

George Gifford.
