Avows that his testimony, elicited
by Lord Burleigh and Richard Young,
against many of those tried,
tortured, and executed in the
aftermath of the Babington Conspiracy
was fictitious. Among those named
by Tyrell are Mary Queen of Scots,
Fr. Edward Weston, Charles Tilney,
the Earl of Arundel, Lady Drury,
John Ballard, Edward Windsor, and
George Gifford.
[The original letter does not
survive, making this MS the best
authority for Tyrell's retraction.]
