when they sent Mildmay, Walsingham's
nephew, with these instructions to
acquaint Duke John Casimir "sith
the cause of our owne Cominge
hither". The principal cause was
the unwelcome news that the Estates
had invited the Duke of Alencon
and Anjou to come to their aid
against Spain. This document
embodies a detailed summary, drawn
up for Casimir, of the whole course
of the negotiations, both in France
and in the Low Countries.
