Lengthy letter written when Coomes was a freshman at Yale College on family matters, farming, a fire caused by student reveling, and the typhoid fever epidemic. Coomes says the newspaper coverage of the typhoid epidemic at Yale is exaggerated. However, Coomes succumbed to typhoid fever before his freshman year was over. Donated to the Library by Mrs. Lucene (Cecil H.) White, a great niece of Coomes, September 1987. Typed transcript available.
