Kumin wrote children's books, poetry collections, essay and short story collections, and novels, and files can be found for A Winter Friend (1961), The Abduction (1971), The Designated Heir (1974), and The Long Approach (1985), among others. There is also correspondence with writers, literary critics, and publishers, including Dudley Fitts, William Meredith, Howard Nemerov, Anne Sexton, Atlantic Monthly, Poetry Magazine,Saturday Review, Harper and Row, McGraw-Hill, and W. W. Norton. Other materials chiefly document Kumin's professional actitivities, such as speaking engagements and participation on literary juries and in the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference.
