CORRESPONDENCE is divided into two sections. The first is arranged alphabetically by name of the writer and contains letters form important political, literary, and academic figures. The second section is arranged chronologically and contains letters from less prominent persons and from the general public. Copies of letters written by Max Lerner are filed under the name of the person to whom they were addressed.

Correspondence (.75 linear feet) is arranged chronologically; the bulk of it is from 1945 to 1969. It relates to Max Lerner's career in journalism and his writings. There is a large amount of correspondence with various publishers and editors, particularly Walter Minton at G. P. Putnam's Sons. Other letters concern Lerner's travels, speaking engagements, and participation in conferences and various media projects. Lerner also corresponded with many prominent writers, artists, politicians, and journalists on national and world politics and current events.
