The World Resources Institute (WRI) series documents the creation of the World Resources Institute in 1982 and Speth's service as the founder and president. The WRI is a nonprofit organization dedicated to issues of global development, environmental protection, and promoting environmentally sound development for future generations. Speth founded the WRI in 1982 with the aid of a MacArthur Grant and led the institute through 1992. Materials in this series consist of administrative documents, correspondence, papers, statements, and speeches, as well as Speth's daily planners and his schedule. Also included are materials documenting the activities of the WRI from 1992 to 2009, after Speth left the organization.
