Spiro discovered that the prestigious Eppinger Prize given for liver research by the Falk Foundation in West Germany was named after a Nazi physician, Hans Eppinger, who experimented on inmates in concentration camps. In response to Spiro's criticism of the award, the organization decided not to award it in the future. Folder contains newspaper articles and a copy of Spiro's editorial "Eppinger of Vienna: Scientist and Villain," Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology 6 (1984): 493-494.
