Accompanied by fragments of verse, a letter from Mrs. Ross to Dr. Jessopp (August 19, 1887), a description of the collection by Buxton Forman, an autograph letter, signed, from Arthur G. Meredith to Mrs. Ross, dated [1861] September 25, with a note at the end from George Meredith, dated [1861] October 8.

Three are written in the hand of Marie E. Meredith (Mrs. Sturgis), one of which is signed by Meredith and one by her with her own name.

Mentioning some of Meredith's early works: Evan Harrington, etc., and also "All the year around", Wilkie Collins & "The Woman in White", Dickens, Thackeray, and "Vanity Fair", Rossetti and "Cassandra", Swinburne and "East Lynne"; and giving some very interesting criticism.
