This is an early letter in which Meredith speaks of important publishing matters, including proofs of a book on Japan. It is also one of the few letters in which he speaks of his wife without bitterness. (There is no reference to her in 1852, and they were subsequently divorced after a very unhappy marriage.)
Contains a long early poem, "Wandering Willie," an incomplete story, "The Land of Flowers," an essay on Grillparzer, which formed the basis for Meredith's article "Austrian poets" in Fraser's Magazine (August 1852) and fragments and memoranda.
The collection contains manuscripts, annotated proofs and printed works, correspondence, and other papers documenting the life and works of George Meredith.
