The series is comprised of Chester Himes's original manuscript drafts, draft fragments, and miscelleaneous notes and sketches. Some of the manuscripts and draft fragments are signed by Himes and also contain handwritten corrections. The manuscripts in this series also include the original titles that Himes had for his books. The series includes galley proofs and page proofs, some with corrections and notes from Himes and the various publishers of his books.
